SOOO I getting ideas..sharing ideas and getting inspiration.

I hope to start on my basement man cave fish room build out here soon.

my plan is to have ( hopefully) a good amount of tanks + TV lounge

I am thinking of a DIY plywood build in the 500-1000 gal, for a FOWLR

an LPS tank already have ( RS 300XL G2)
a softie tank
a macro tank
maybe an SPS tank
and a few FW planted tanks.

I have always loved softies and softie Dom. tanks I would love to try to recreate the iconic look of MikeC softie tank.

so that leads us to the question what size should I make it? sump or AIO or canister...humm lots of options here.
the way the house is build I cant get any thing over a 3-4 foot tank down there. even that would be a challenge. ( unless they where the petco tanks )

I leaning towards
IM 25 loggon AIO
IM SR 60 AIO
40br with sump or canister
WB 3620 with canister or HOB overflow to sump.

IDK got along way to go. before this come together. but its fun to think about. be nice if all or most of the tank matched.
the idea of a few IM lagoons sounds very tempting...

anyway if you where creating one of many tank for a softie tank what would you do?

i cant think

For a softie tank, I would go somewhat larger (3’ length personally). The reason for this is if you want leathers, especially sarcophyton species they can be quite large and grow quickly.
My Sarcophyton is only 4 months into the tank and has grown almost triple the size since I put it in. You could previously see the acorn barnacle behind it but now it pretty much covers it.

Lots of wavy gorgs, sponges, sinularias, toadstool or two--make one a weeping willow variety and the other a Fiji yellow, some sinularias, different ornamental macroalgaes, cabbage coral, and a few centerpieces: an enormous pink koji wada nepthea and an isolated colony of Vargas and waving hand anthelias. Pick a few spots for shrooms: a huge red St. Thomas, a few bouncy ones and maybe a few jawbreakers. Splash of color with some carefully selected zoas/palys that look best under fuller spectrum lighting. The full slectrum lighting will really highlight the centerpiece softies. Examples include Cinnamon grandis palys, green grandis palys, utter chaos, rainbow infusions, tubbs blues, purple monsters, sunny D, AOI, white zombies, scrambled eggs, rastas...

Talk about ambitious. I don't know what you should put in it, but your should definitely hire someone else to take care of all those tanks.
yeah I might have to bring my idea back down to earth some. but shoot for the stars will make it to the moon.
the idea was/is to create easy to care for tanks with minimal maintenance.

IDK 1st got to finish out the basement...

not sure I can get a 4'er down there.
but I could DIY one. I have a RS 350 stand and sump was thinking of trying my hand at a plywood bottom tank.

that said I think a 3' peninsula would have more coral real estate that a 4' tank with the classic rock wall scape.

I need to do a tank layout /room design to get an idea of what I can fit.
I am sure if I do this it will be a many year project.
