If you want an SSC, I would suggest getting a Battlecorals Hyperberry. It's just a really nice and very hardy SSC. They're very solid, and pretty cheap.

Test nutrients.

I do have one SSC that's been around for ages. Was bought as a MIMIC SSC. It's an Acro but has the SSC Pink/Green) Color mix.

Sorry you had to add to your collection.
Thanks. It's a bummer. It really stood out in the Best Center Spot on my DT. Now I have a dark spot.

I may try one more but another SSC. This one was probably a wild Aussie.

The Supplier does have a different Variant of SSC. A mother Colony that is just as nice coloration but slightly different structure.
Mine had no PE when I bought it. The other Colony is as hairy as a Milli.
Every few months it grows enough to be fragged. I put my name on next in line.

AS FAR AS NUTRIENT QUESTION.

My N is the same as Always 25ppm.
But my P has risen since I stopped Phosguard, and it's stuck at 0.45 (which is a bit TOO high), but I'm scared to start using GFO/Phosguard.
(So I am cleaning ATS more often as it fills, and more Water Changes, and really slowed down on Coral Feeding at night)

Those numbers are fine. My problems come when nutrients bottom out and hit 0. When I see sudden SPS problems typically checking nutrients has isolated some issues for me and friends.

Otherwise, it happens now and again. Could also be the increased lighting, but nutrient numbers look good!

At least I have this.
2019-02-04_StrawberryMimic.jpg

Not SSC Caliber. But has some Pink/Green. Was sold as an Acro (SSC Mimic).
Been around for ages in my DT. Grown a bit, and is Encrusting too. Had better PE before.

It will be nice if it continues to grow, UP.

Used to look like this before Coral Essentials :)

looks good wally! wonder what changed the PE... The guy I got a coral from today has had PE issues since he got the same angel you have, which should be very well behaved around SPS. He's seen it take some taste tests now and again, I wonder if it only take a few nibbles to make them shy

Hmmm.
I trusted the Angel and Same for all my Fish. Never thought of looking for a PE Pecker.
Good Tip!!
I will watch the Angel closely for a while.
However many other corals have PE, but you may have a point, the PE isn't ideal across the board. (come as goes from Frag to Frag).
Nibbling here and there could do it. He may have favourites.

Wally, sorry for the SSC loss.
Since using CE, my PE has been great.
Might be a fish that is interested in that particular acro.

OK.

I will setup one of my WEB CAM with Motion Detect Focused on the One Acro.

If it's the Wanatabei Angel nibbling....I have a solution.

No WAIT!! That's might scratch my glass.

Something less drastic..

I hope neither is needed :)

Yeah they're supposed to be pretty well behaved but not perfect!

For me, I've always had pretty intense PE, and I've always kind of attributed it to flow, especially after a few people I know have told me the same.

CO2 Scrubber (TAKE 2) Full Automation (PH Control) & Dual Media Canister

My order of CDX (Soda Lime) arrived.

So I completed the Setup for the CO2 Scrubber. (only investment is Soda Lime, and The Valve which can be returned if things don't work out)

46949266972_dc6b00c2d6_c.jpg

IMPROVMENTS ARE:

1) New CDX Media (not expired)
2) Two Canisters that can be swapped to extend Media Life

3) The Motorized Valve can Switch AIR INTO SKIMMER
------ A -----> Fresh Air from Outside House

-------B1 -----> CO2 Scrubber Air (using Indoor Air since more moisture)
-------B2-----------------> I can add a T-Connector to Draw Fresh Air into CO2 Scrubber.

I will be able to compare (A) vs (B1) vs (B2) Effect on PH level

4) The Auto 3 Way Valve can be switched by Apex
------A---> Scheduled Switching
------B---> PH Level Trigger Switching

Hoping things work better compared to last time.
The Media has to last more than last time (which was 2 days)

IF Not (at least 5-6 weeks), I give up on CO2 Scrubber Concept. (Too $expensive for Media)

Canisters Filled with new CDX Soda Lime.

So 1x 750ml Jar of CDX is just enough to Fill a PhosBan 150 Reactor.
MAKES SENSE since both are made by TLF.

I decided to Split it for Better Air Flow thru Reactor #1, and also see if any CO2 is making it to Reactor #2 (it should not change purple too quickly)

2019-02-05_CO2-1CDX750mlCan.jpg

For now I set the APEX to switch the valve as below

Fallback off
If pHSPS > 8.15 Then ON (Fresh Air if PH >8.15)

If pHSPS < 8.15 Then OFF (Co2 Scrubber if PH <=8.15)
If pHSPS = 8.15 Then OFF

Just to get a sense. I'll adjust things later.

SNEAK PEAK (Co2 Scrubber) DAY 1

So far so good. PH Held higher overnight. (Comparing Day Before [No Co2 Scrubber] PH is up by 0.14

Will be interesting to see when Lights come on when PH normally Rises (and the Auto Valve Swtiches over to Fresh Air)

2019-02-06_CO2Scrubber-Day0.jpg

It will take a day or two (to stabilize) to see the overall effect.

As Far as SODA-LIME Media Life (Usage)
2019-02-06_CO2-MediaUse-Day1.jpg

That's pretty bad for 12 Hours. Hoping things slow down.

Is this taking air from inside your home or outside? If it's inside you might have an issue...

@Fudsey , what do you mean ISSUE?

At this point I decided to try INSIDE AIR (ONLY for Scrubber Intake).

When AUTO Valve switches to turn Scrubber OFF (Skimmer get's Fresh AIR).

-------------> I can easily add a T-Tube and also Draw Fresh air into (CO2) scrubber. (LATER, after some observation)

The reason I chose House Air into Scrubber ( is due to Winter, the Air Outside is Very Dry). Soda Lime works best with Humid Air. (too dry can make CO, Carbon Monoxide)
The downside is House air has more CO2 (So media burns off faster, but since I don't use media all the time, it may equalize).

I read that I can add a teaspoon of water to bottom of TLF reactor to moisten air (as an alternative, when using Fresh Air into CO2 Scrubber VIA the 3 Way Valve).
I did that last trial.

Ps. Don’t think that rate will slow down Wally; this is probably the most expensive way to raise PH...

What I mean is you may have high co2 in your house. Bad enough that it could cause you and your family issues?? This was my concern :)

I know. That is why I want to prove it! (with a $20 Jar of CDX)
Then it will motivate me to start up my KALK reactor (safely after testing Similarly/combining A/B Dosing) * NO Mistakes can happen **

However another GOAL is to see what Benefits the Slightly HIGHER PH brings (for however long the CDX lasts)

Things are safe.

I posted this before, but here it is again.
I rented a CO2 Monitor and ran it for a few weeks in various locations.

2018-09-22_CO2-Measurements.jpg

If I crack my Basement window open, even for 10 minutes, CO2 Drops drastically in the House. (and it lasts for hours)
Tough to do daily, especially with Cold Winter, or HOT summer.
