Suggestions to keep you busy;

A good buddy of mine gave the most compelling evidence of higher pH than anybody I've ever known. To quote him...

"With co2 scrubbing growth was so substantial it became a nuisance"

So you could always do a few things for fun...

- co2 scrubbing
- saturated kalk water

If growth is boring, try to speed it up to make things more interesting !

I have done both in the Past.

-> C02 scrubbing using "Two Little Fishes: CDX" or better common name {Soda Lime, have 1/2 JAR left } ( Better than outside Air to Skimmer......but Expires fast, expensive, might try a two canister approach like on BRStv, but still expensive)

Problem with CO2 Scrubbing (I think), is once you get Started and PH is higher 8.2-8.4 and Soda Stuff expires, PH drops, and maybe Frags go bezerk.

-> Kalk. I have a DIY reactor I used to run on 90 Gal Tank. 1.5 Gallons of Kalk surplus. Would love to try, but don't want to use Evaporation Top Up methods. Would like to compliment ESV dosing (more stable), but it's a bit tricky to tune between two types of dosing (together)....You have to if not pumping in enough Kalk.

Problem with KALK
, and has happened to me, if ATO went Nuts and A ton of KALK went it. PH when from 8.5 to 14 or something like that. Wasn't good.

Yes, I like both projects. Probably the Kalk way, since I don't have to spend any money.

You could make very heavily saturated kalk water and dose on the 4th head of your doser (I think it has 4 heads...) just dose some every few minutes. You want a drip if possible.

That's what makes Calcium Reactors work so well, it's dosing non stop 24/7.

I do have a buddy that uses kalk reactor but has his ATO only turn on at night, to balance pH. He does that 'cause he uses a CaRx tho.

I like your Super Saturated idea. I do have an Extra DOSING head (idle).
Remember my DIY doser can do 1 drop at a time it's so accurate. It also has the mixer magnet too. (would be ideal to stir the super Kalk)

Again. This is dangerous territory, and no mistakes can happen. Easy to wipe out all SPS with BIG ALK Spike.

Need to practice somewhere.

Slider works - pretty neat. (Edit - I must have somehow bounced and replied to an early post. . . still neat though. :) )
Thanks for confirming.
It took me some editing to simplify the code. But it's easy and I can show anyone, just send a message to me on reef2reef. (1) You prepare two photos your want to compare (exact size and lined up), and drop them into a Folder on your computer/tablet/phone. (2) then drop this one file in there. (3) open a browser and point to the file and the Two photo's will appear with the Slider to compare. NO NEED to put on a web site.

MANDARIN Goby (Dust Not ICH) Will run a POM/DOM Filter

The Mandarin was all covered in dust flakes like shown below (one dust spot example. Photo just taken)

44809027715_34615e8feb_b.jpg

He is fine :) ......Same with Black Cappet Basset. Dark Fish show dust more than others (and that is what caught my attention)

Before I figured it out, I reacted quickly and added one dose of Polyp Lab Medic (Ich Cure). No harm done....The stuff is SAFE...(and Reef Safe too).

I Know that @tenurepro would have scolded me for getting the ICH Firefish, if things went wrong. He warned me about risking the Firefish knowing it had it.
Being SUPER CAREFUL on Quarentine, and Sterilization. QT is far from DT, and everything used is separate, and soaked in Vinegar right after use.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I WILL BE DOING A POM/DOM filter to clean up the Stirred water a bit.
Learned this from @shih87.

DOM is Disolved Oragnic Matter.
POM is Particulate Organic Matter

Great article from Dr Randy Holmes on those two topics
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-10/rhf/index.htm

SHIH87 told me that when Particulates get too much in his tank.
He blows off rocks with powerhead, and he runs a Maxijet with some Floss on the input, to capture all the dust. Just a hour or so.
(Not too long since some DOM/DOM is needed for Healthy Corals as Dr. Randy Homes states)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am officially scolding you for not following the precautionary principle.
Also, I think that fluke is going to need years of therapy to recover from watching his buddy get cut in half... [emoji33] the horror, the horror.

Finally - did you catch my Alk testing tip vid... so simple... you will wonder why no body has recommended it earlier!
Cheers!

Rakie,

Not ready for any CO2Scrubber, or Kalk......

Dont' want to do Vinegar/Vodlka/Carbon/NOPOX

But got a New (distraction) Project IDEA.

Nitrate (NO3) Reduction Machine.

31871574208_90424c6bf0.jpg

Dug around my boxes for the parts I need.

Should take me a day or two to finish it.

Basically, I get too distracted by phone calls, kids, door bells, wife, School pickups, piano/karate/etc drop off, chores, etc....
Each day is a blur.
But every time I pass by the tank (which is a lot), I just feed the fish, WITHOUT A CLUE when I feed Last, and How many times that day.

I overfeed my fish 100% most of the time. (and it's SPoratic, sometimes not enough for the Anthias)

I was thinking Whiteboard......as a solution. They are messy.
Or do Portion in advance. Too much work!!

So this SIMPLE SMART PUSH BUTTON on-wall TIMER (with Display) will keep track of how many times I feed, and when I fed last (in hrs:mins).
May integrate with Apex to Flash my Tank lights when time to feed (reminder) ....Train fish to react.
Maybe even track Food types per day.... Flake, Frozen, and Pellets.

There is another reason that I'll figure out tomorrow, after I do a GENE MATCH (Saw something at the fish store today)

I'm feeding around 2 cubes a day to my fish, feeding polyp labs twice a week, and never do water changes.

I still have to dose nitrates and phosphates! LOTS of them.. I attribute it to my 3L of Matrix BioMedia.

ok, you caught me lying. You are as clever as my wife for that.

Feeder counter is an excuse to get a couple of Carryberryi Anthias I saw. The one I have is lonely (after the other one died ) and not acting comfortable since they do better in groups.
They were a tiny bit smaller then the one i have. But bigger than when i got mine as babbies. eatting too.

I just need to ensure they are carryberryi, so I took photos of mine and will check tomorrow. They look exact, but store didn't have a specieis name.

If things work out (a Anthias Species match), IT WILL MAKE MY Wife and Kids SO HAPPY to have the BEAUTIFUL Firefish upstairs in the kitchen (another twisted lie)

After watching the firefish a reading a bit, it will be better in the LPS tank with lower flow, since this firefish really takes to rime pick out food (yet another twisted lie)

Here are the photo I have to compare.

THIS IS MY ANTHIAS (hard to get a photo of him focused, since he keep moving. Fast shutter speed, doesn't get the details & Colors grab I wanted)

This my PHONE Photo the STORE ANTHIAS

and this is off Internet official Photo of a Carryiberryi Anthias

What do you think? Match?

Welcome @elisa h .
More fish Adventures on the Way if you are right.

The LFS store Manager wasn't there, just a Junior worker. He said they are Lyletail Anthias, which is wrong. Lyletails look different, and they have blue eyes. They get BIG.

My Carriberryi's were happy as a pair, now the single spends most of his/her time in a cave. Comes out only to eat.
Two more would be great to bring out all 3, since beautiful fish need to show themselves.

The two new ones must be females...if mine became a male. Two males will fight to the death unless a condition happens when one becomes a sub-male (which can happen).

However my feeling is mine hasn't yet morphed into a male since it's alone and around more aggressive fish. Timing is critical to get some females added soon.
THAT is why I got excited when I saw the Carryiberryi's at the store today. (My dream when I originally bought 5 of them was a School.

HERE IT IS ((( THE DIY Ardiuno FISH FEEDER MINDER * Gizmo * ))) Prototype

So I wasn't lying about making the Gizmo. I never lie and I always keep my promises (My kids know that 100%).......Prices of Corals and Fish to Wife is not lying...:), its my bad Selective memory.

It's not done, but fully working on the basic concept.

HERE IS A Preliminary DEMO on YouTube (just hit play)

In the video you can see when I get Distracted (like making this Feeder Minder) that the Tang who I neglected feeding, it really trying to get my attention to Feed him.

This will be ready just in time since I have confirmed the Anthias are Carryberyi and 3 are on hold at LFS. (they need regular/frequent feeding)

Anyone want to build one? I can send you code once I an finished testing and all features.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the parts you will need.

#1] (Mini Arudino Uno Computer with USB MIN-B Cable) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fre...lgo_pvid=565fae09-36d5-4420-85b9-070382381862

#2] (2 Line LCD Display with I2C connector) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/LCD1602-I2C-LCD-1602-module-Blue-screen-IIC-I2C-for-arduino-LCD1602-Adapter-

SO I GOING to made a CLONE MOD for my SON (Super Mario, PACman, etc.... a Reminder to Get off Chair from Endless Video Game Playing)

Carryberryi ANTHIAS (DAY 0 - QT) With Feed Minder

They are here....

44861873685_f982d73a51_b.jpg

A bit shy but they are very active.

Feed Minder V1.0 Running to keep them Fed and Healthy (At Stored today they gobbled Flake....and Helped decision to take them)

I would say 99.9% they are same specicies (Carryberryi) that I have a single of in tank. (Bet the Large one in Tank will be or is already Male....They are females)

YUP. Looking at photo I notice 70 degree in tank (Forgot to put the probe in)
