I've had something similar happen.. When I was moving all the fish from a smaller tank to my current cube I put them in a small biocube. The hose connecting the return pump to the return nozzle had come off. I was off to the store to grab a few things and on my way out I saw my rainford goby looking at the dark return pump section and I could just see him thinking "I wonder whats in there?"... FOr a split second I thought I should really cover that little hole... Then I figured I'm going literally across the street to my LFS. I'll be back in 5 minutes if there's traffic.

When I got back I found pieces of my rainford goby everywhere. He went in tht little overflow hole and got sucked through the maxijet.

I was especially bummed... Rainford gobies don't typically come like that guy. He ate everything, and wasn't afraid of anything including my hands in the tank.

____________

As for your tank. Just make sure there's a lot of surface agitation keeping the oxygen high. If your tank is a little cloudy i'd be worried about a bacteria bloom.

FireFish ( TRANFER BACK to QT #1) Minimal Shock, Best Approach

Enough excitement for the Little FireFish today. I didn't want to do a new Water Change on him, since that would be shock.

But that DEATH TANK with CRACK wasn't a memory I wanted to look at tomorrow morning.

So kept things simple. Transferred Same Water Back into NEW QT (but trickle Ran through some ROX Carbon).

Didn't use a NET for the FIREFISH, instead used a Sieve Box, for very Gentle Tansfer.

And to cheer everyone up including me, put in some of my Tank Decorations.(Put the bad memories behind)

RIGHT AWAY the Firefish took to the Sponge Bob House, which is better than the bare tank he had before. Living under the heater.

After this FREAK EVENT, I got an appropriate NAME for him.

FLUKE :)

I'm starting to feel much better now. Doing something good is therapy.

Thanks guys for chiming in tonight. (Good to have someone to be with during tough times)

Hey Rakie,

Been thinking about what you said about Firefish not getting along.
I was just thinking to myself if I should replaced the Killed Helfrichi Firefire.

But I started digging around if two would ever co-exist.
Funny.....You see video of people having two, but that just at the beginning.
People having pairs , tripplets ofr common firefish in like 30 Gallon tanks.

But then I dug around more. A little into the future of people having more than 1 firefish.
Absolute Hell.
Guy ripping their tanks apart to catch the mean ones because it's nothing but bloody fighting.

Sound like what you said it very true.
And maybe this one guy dying on QT may have been a Blessing in Disguise. (who knows, they were so cute together, I would have tried to put them in one tank)
I hate headaches, and I hate fighting fish.

That’s the Ritz Carlton of Qt. Tor right maybe it was blessing in disguise could have been worst I your DT.

Well that 10Gal Ritz QT Tank and Plastic Ornaments cost a lot of $$$. About $2000.00

It used to be my Son's Neon Guppy tank on 2nd Floor when he was 10 years old.
It had a air pump running an airstone, and one day when power failure happened, the air pump stopped (caused a siphon), and the whole 10 Gallons drain onto his HARDWOOD bedroom floor.
Hardwood Parquet Floor Warped like sand dunes.
It leaked into the floor and downstairs into Dinning room ceiling and ruined ceiling, light fixture, and nice dinning room table.

MY DIY (Smart APEX Controller Setup) Amazon Alexa and BEYOND...

I've been meaning to post this up, but instead of here....... I started a Thread.

This I did even before Neptune Fusion worked with Alexa. (does certain things better, and integrates with your SMART HOME with Apex does but limited as I have learned)

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/alexa-and-apex-fusion-whats-your-experience-share-your-automation-learnings.482715/#post-5304628

This is just the beginning, my vision is to do much, much more....

Sorry to read about the fish loss, Wally.
Fluke will be much happier now in QT with those decorations and a good place to hide and hang out.

I really know now how u feel Wally. Came home to find one of my blue tang lifeless death is unknown at this moment.
What!!!!! Just now.

I knew you were mentioning about Worrying about a Fish, but I thought it might not be anything serious.

Sorry Man.
It really is an awful feeling that is hard to shake off. I was walking stunned last night.

I know it's hard, but try to think of something positive. Like suffering is ended, or room for a new different fish.

I know what it's like to loose a Blue Tang. I had a Powder Blue Tang. Was with me for 12-15 years.
He went through everything with me. Tank breakdowns, crashes, other fish jumping out, rebuilds.
Then when Tank got Velvet from a Clownfish, all fish died one by one.
The Blue Tang was biggest, and he died last, and suffered most, with me watching/hoping.
I wasn't experienced like I am now and could have saved him.

Sorry again. I know exactly how you feel

Appreciate the support man. Could you help me ID the COD. I was looking at the fish disease thread and I’m leaning towards brooklynella but I’m not sure since I’m new. I have a pic of it in my build thread

FLUKE the Helfrichi Firefish (Doing Well in QT) TTM Tank #2

31829387668_def864b284_b.jpg

Now with the other firefish gone. Fluke is showing a bit more of his Feisty personality.

Could be the Ornaments giving him a feeling of safety. (Usually QT is best kept bare, but this is an exception)

PUMP Cleanup Time (Lumps of Coraline) Full Tank PHOTO-Pump-less

I hate taking out all pumps and cleaning them, but I've paid the price not doing this. (Pumps Seize, or actually break)

Took the opportunity to take a Tank Photo with Minimum Pumps in the way.

43887053650_f2ade0e8b7_h.jpg

Got some Cyano starting in Patches. So Far no big deal.

One FRAG GROWTH Comparison Photo to compliment the FTS.

And a slightly different FTS (Side office View)

** WARNING ** My Lesson LEARNED (( Clean your Pumps Regularly......Especially your GYRE PUMP)

I hated the pump cleanup process, but Worth the Effort.

I learned (not first time) something about my GYRE since I left this cleaning WAY TOO LONG. (especially since this new tank Setup has a Effective Coraline growing)

When I put the GYRE Back, and ran it 80%..... it almost PUSHED MY ISLAND ASIDE (Well, at least it blasted the fish like never before). WAY TO STRONG ( like a Maxspect XF150 Should be)

Glad I watched since over the last while I kept increasing the GYRE and had a it set to 100% a few times a day. All my pump programming has now been drop by 40%, since Gyre running MORE POWER.

So HERE IS THE NEW SETUP......I like the No-pump look so much....that did some re-arranging of pump to achieve that.

45657504752_d2a8b58cb0_b.jpg

I added the Maxi-Jet Pump to cover a Dead Spot Corner.

And I move the CP-24 Gyre BEHIND THE RIGHT ISLAND (twisted to point two directions)

And to raise the XF-150 (I put the OUTSIDE MAGNET inside the Outside Overflow Box)

AS SEEN in the BACK OF TANK VIEW.

45657504002_6758bc970c_b.jpg

I have a GUT FEELING that my CYANO creep was due to Circulation Slowing down (especially the GYRE's) and increasing DEAD Circulation SPOTS.

You gained an hour @WallyB not lost :)
Hey @Fudsey, I too was really confused about the clock change.

I had to triple check to ensure I got it right. I did it on paper....

The TTM rule means 72 hours. Just because the clocks change a hour back (we get extra sleep), but the QT tank's HOUR clock doesn't change....it keeps ticking minutes, hours.

So 72 hours from 6pm, 4 days ago, is 6pm OLD TIME. That means if I look at my updated clocks, it 5pm.

I don't loose or again any hours in the QT with Daylight Savings Clock Change. 6pm OLD time, or 5pm New time is the DEADLINE.

The 72 hours is probably not too strict, but better before than after.

Did I get it right?
