Hi guys, so I am brand new to this community and I figured I’d ask a few questions. I have been keeping aquariums on and off most of my life. I just recently started getting back into the hobby and I set up a new 40 gallon FOWLR tank about a month ago. I used Fritz Turbostart 900 to cycle the...
A few months back I set up auto water changes on my Waterbox 130. It has worked amazingly well.. in theory. Back when I was doing bi-weekly 10-15% water changes, I would notice a happy shift in my tank after doing it. Corals and fish seemed to love the refresh, and things did well. With the AWC...
I started a 15 gallon reef tank about 3 weeks ago just using tap water with a water conditioner and everything is doing fine other then alge and I am aware i need RODI water. If i start doing water changes with RODI will it filter out my tap water ?
I started a 15 gallon reef tank about 3 weeks ago and used tap water with a water conditoner, everything has been doing good other then having alge issues and i am aware I should be using RODI water. If i start doing water changes with RODI from now on will that tap water be filtered out ?
I am looking to change out about 10 gallons in my 90 gallon reef *88 gallons=tank+fuge* housing some expensive sps frags. If my current DKH is 8.2 and the DKH of Reef Crystals is 13 would that be too much of a change?
I did the math and doing a waterchange would add about .5 DKH for 10 gallons...
Is there such a thing as too much regular water change? Apart from the cost consideration, is changing 20% weekly, split over 7-days, better or worse that than say 10% once a week?
Hi all,
I realise all batches of AF salt are all slightly different and I wandering how others manage this in conjunction with dosing equal amounts of Components 1,2,3?
Take the following as an example ...
I am in the process of balancing my ions, dosing equal of the 3 comps, with a little...
I wanted to document what I think are close $$$ numbers on the true cost of a 20g water change.
I chose 20g bc on avg I think most ppl are around a 20g water change when done weekly, bimonthly, or monthly.
TAP WATER TO RODI:
Avg cost of tap water in the U.S. is around $2.50 per 1000 gal...
Hi All,
I am hoping some of you can share some tips on doing water changes. I have a 150G DT, and am trying to figure out the best way to know when I have taken out 15 Gallons, or 30 gallons, so I know when I have taken out 10-20% respectively.
I was thinking of just filling up a 5 gallon...
Do you prefer to feed your corals before your water changes? Some seem to prefer to reduce what stays in the water column after feeding by doing a water change after, others seem to look at it as leaving fresh food available for their livestock after a water change, and some feed their tank so...
I got a skimmer for my reef a few months ago for some reason I thought I could get away with doing my 10% weekly water change to 10% every 2 weeks when I got the skimmer. After reading more online I’m seeing I still need to do 10% a week or 20% every two weeks.
I plan on moving back to 10% a...

I have been busy with life and am now able to turn attention back to my 40g Reef. I have lost most LPS with the exception of shrooms which are quite happy with the mess. I have a Duncan that is hanging on. SG is on, pH @...

So, I recently set up a 10 gallon tank next to my 20 gallon mixed reef. Originally the 10 gallon was a QT tank, but it has now served its purpose (I never needed to medicate) and I don't plan on adding any more fish to my 20 gallon. So I'm thinking of converting the small tank into a little...
Hello, reefers!
Around Thanksgiving this year, I will be leaving the country for a month, and my biggest fear is imagining what my reef is going to go through. So, I look to the thousands of reefers here for advice on what I can do to prevent the most common mistakes. Since I have been...
I am looking to build a ULM tank at some point that is fully automated and I have come across RODI units being plumbed directly to a sump or ATO within the cabinet to eliminate the need for carrying buckets of water. Redundancy of failsafes to ensure flooding the tank as well as your home does...
Apex Auto Top Off Kit --- ATK. --- $175 Shipped
Purchased new a few week's ago, and I am getting another ATK on another route.
Great Deal, In Original Box:
I have a standard 75 gallon tank. I was wondering if I need to take into consideration the volume displacement of my live rock and sand when calculating the percent of water to change. For example 20% of 75 is 15 but with 85lbs of live rock my actuall water volume is only 62 gallons and 20% of...
:( Not sure why or how my fish are starting to disappear one by one.
So far have 3 fish have "disappeared"
all of this started after i did 25-30% water changes for the past 2-3 weeks. I'm positive it's not the salt, my WC procedure is simply adding the RODI, adding salt for 1.026 salinity and...
Going to do 20-30% changes over the course of the next two weeks, I was thinking of adding a full bottle of bio spira at the end of the all the water changes to keeps things balanced. Good idea or bad idea?
I have several more buckets in the house as well. Needless to say I found a way to really put promotions to work and got an incredible deal on salt. In the future I plan on sharing these deals when I find them so subscribe to my build thread below.
I chose buckets over boxes because I assumed...
