I have a pair of clowns which were purchased from the LFS about a month ago. All has been well until last night they developed many fuzzy white spots. The other fish in the tank, a couple of Chromis and some fire fish show no signs. Could this be brook?
Hi everyone. I lost many fish as I stated in my intro discussion, but I want learn more and I have learned that I don't trust my lfs so much yet. That jury is out. They scrapped a clown and told me it was ich and I thought I had brook. But looking at this fish I am not sure I don't also have...
I have a sailfin tang that has been QT'ed for about 4 weeks now. Her first 10 days she was being treated with 20mg/l of Chloroquine Phosphate (CP), and then went back to just observation (no meds in the water). She started to show signs again of what I thought was velvet. I got the best pictures...
Hi all,
Reaching out regarding fish disease that started after buying new fish. I was going to be out of town and did not quarantine properly and my Maroon Clown and Yellow tang have developed what appears to be velvet (not sure, see pictures). I could only get clear pictures of my clown...
Hi, I recently added a couple chromis to my nano tank and they sadly passed away very quickly. I cant imagine it was due to water quality or acclimation. Took a picture of one of the chromis and seemed to have black spots on the face. No idea where this disease could have come from. My clownfish...
Hello Everyone! I wish I had a more exciting discussion topic for my first post on R2R but we deal with the hand we are dealt. I recently decided to get back into the hobby after being out of it for almost 10 years (tragic story there). Either way, I decided I wanted to do it 100% the right way...
First post! Please be gentle.
I've been running my tank for several months now and it's doing fantastically, but I recently got some sort of parasite.
Although I have a green machine UV light installed, I still picked something up.
I've treated where I can without completely removing all fish...
May be, but not sure?? Need help to confirm it!
An observation on my aquarium , I had a yellow tang with lymphocystis, and I notice the some white spots like ick on my blue tang, they were visiting the lysmata shrimps for a clean up very frequently.
After dealing with an ick, velvet or what...
In order to try and decide why some think there is a high percentage of disease/parasites now as compared to years past - I decided to check with several LFS and a couple large shippers - If you own an LFS - or have data concerning what copper (if any) your LFS (or wholesaler uses) Please...
I would like to hear from people who 'Quarantine' their fish - not from those who do not use this method. This is not designed to determine what percent of people use QT methods - but rather those who do - what percentage have had a failure....
Lets discuss the reasons why it is 'great' -...
Hi everyone
I added some new fish to my aquarium 11 days ago, all healthy and eating. They had been in quarantine in an existing tank at my LFS for 6 weeks (no new fish added) was one of their display tanks and not using UV. I am setting up a new tank and I didn't have a quarantine tank large...
Hey everyone, I just purchased a Watanabei angel and just after 24 hours (added her yeaterday morning to the QT/Hospital tank) her eye looks like this right now, it was perfectly normal yesterday, this happened so quickly... I'm not currently dosing any medication at all in the the QT..
I was...

i started up a second tank and put all of my zoa frags in there, added a couple fish. A few weeks later I added another fish and within a few days everything came down with what I believe was velvet and I wasn’t able to save them sadly. I’ve just been running the tank with the zoa frags in it...
Please forgive me if this should be under disease treatment instead but I posted here since I’m treating tonight and need help ASAP. I have a DT that’s 65g and was a mixed reef tank. I converted it to fowlr about three months ago. I added a porcupine puffer that came from a local reefer that was...
There is a lot of discussion in various threads about QT vs CI management. Please take this poll - you may choose as many choices as you like. Feel free to discuss in the comments....
Hi All from across the pond,
I had a rather severe outbreak of ich/velvet which wiped 80% of my fish, the rest are currently in QT being treated with copper and are all doing really well thankfully.
This takes me onto the fallow period, the norm is 72 days as noted by 98% of the reefing...
Hey guys, Today I was going through a petco near me for new filters and I was just walking around to see what they have. They had herbtana which I used in the past for fw ich, but I read it and it claims that it can kill velvet. To say I was skeptical would be kind of an understatement. Has...
Hi Everyone,
I need some help planning my new QT and/or TTM method for fish in my tank.
First off let me give you the bad new, heart breaking news.... I recently lost almost all of my fish to Velvet as of yesterday (PBT, Regal Angel, Potters Angel, Isosceles Wrasse, 2x Yellow Wrasse, and Royal...
I woke up this morning and checked on my two tangs in QT. I am dosing Copper Power twice daily so besides just generally enjoying the fish, I needed to give them their 1.2 ml dose of Copper Power. I was surprised to see that both tangs (much more so on the Kole) were covered in white specks...
lost two fish today from a velvet outbreak. Other four (2 clown 2 reef chromis) still kicking and eating.
Protocol: 10 gallon hospital
Filter sponge from DT sump with air pump.
Heater, no lights
Water from DT to start
Place fish in aerated freshwater heated rodi for up to 5 min.
Then bath...
Hi Reef2Reef, I've been in a bit of a knotty situation ... I've had a young springer's damselfish in the quarantine for almost 70 days now, but I'm not sure if I should transfer this fish to my display.
At first I had this damselfish and two neon gobies together, all juvenile. The two neon...
my last tank regrettably was shut down and partly filled with water for longer than I’d like to admit. I recently cleaned it out (tons of algae and such)
My question is. The live rock that came from that tank (still wet). Is it safe to put into a new tank? I know I need to clean it and...
