So recently some weird growths have been appearing around my aquarium, sort of all over the place. They are soft, kind of porous, and an off white color, but seem to grow blue after maturing for a while. It seems the feather dusters of my aquarium find them ideal places to root into as well...
I'm 5 months in, and my little aquarium is happier than ever, with tons of biodiversity. I've got spaghetti worms, amphipods, copepods, bristle worms, and stomatellas.... And Aiptasia. The one thorn in my side lately. dang aiptasia!
I've been using Aiptasia F for some time to deal with Aiptasia...
Hi all, hoping for an ID on this or these things. Hiding in my rock. I had a look through the sticky and nothing except maybe hydroids came to mind. You see it move something out of its hold and it seems to be popping out of multiple points in the rock. These were taken during the middle of the...
Hi all,
I would like to share my recent (and on going) experience with indonesian life rock, for the fun. In the past I have used:
Real reef rock in conjunction with dry rock that was previously live. I do noticed that coraline algae appeared quite fast (at 1 month old it started to show up)...
Hey all!
I’ve noticed these small white dots floating in the top middle chamber of my Waterbox 20 sump. They seem to swim when I turn all flow off, and there is a ton of them, and also seemingly react when I shine light on them at night. They’re tiny, smaller than the tip of a pen, can see...
Hello everybody, I just purchased a zoa and upon cleaning it prior to introducing it to my tank I found this critter. Does anyone know what this is? I have more photos and a short video if needed. I am keeping it in a separate container for now. It looks menacing and certainly not shy, makes me...
I found this guy near the waterline after a water change. Its pretty large and can be easily spotted with a naked eye. Its in a bucket now.
Ive also seen something smaller that had a similar body type but a roundish hard piece on one end that looks like what some snails have on their ‘tails’...
I have these strange thin red/pink worms on my glass and they just have appeared from nowhere. I do not have live rock and all of my corals have been dipped. Please help me figure out if these are good or bad. Here’s an image -
I had a Sandshifter starfish about 5 or 6 months ago, and I thought it died. but now I find this.
Or is the a hitchhiker? it just sits on the rocks. then disappears a day later just to show up again, some days later. I see it mostly at night. about an hr. before the light goes out.
The colors...

Been having some algae problems in the last few weeks but got my Trochus Snail. But in the last day or so i just noticed this odd thing on the back of it. None of the other’s have it. Anyone have a good guess? And if so should i remove it?
Can someone please identify those small moving black dots on my Scolymia button coral?
If my calculation is right, the dots are very small, ranging between 0.04 and 0.06 mm. Which should be 10 times smaller than the Black Bugs, if I'm right. For scale reference, the head has 1 inch diameter...
I have no idea what this thing is, i just noticed it on my frag, i dipped the frag before hand as i do with all drags but???? It’s creepy and I’m not sure if i should be worried. I tried to get a good picture of it but the lighting is kind of temperamental sorry.
Hi all,
I’ve had my reef tank for about three months and yesterday I saw a pink rice size thing floating past me in the water. It looks like a piece off a torch coral tentacle for the cooor and thickness. But this morning, I noticed it has attached to my glass and Found a second one. I’ve...
Does anyone have an idea what this green macroalgae is? I obtained it a month ago on some LFS live rock (which I assume originated from the Indo-Pacific when wild live rock was more popular). Since then, it has doubled in size, having grown to an inch across. It is smooth, and stiff yet is very...
Recently bought this guy at a show and it’s in my q tank atm I’m not exactly sure what it is growing on them but the guy was not very forth coming so obviously was a poor choice I just haven’t been able to find out what it is thanks in advance I also can’t tell if it’s aptasia or not cause it...
Hi everyone,
I’m a reasonably new reefer and was wondering what this little hitchhiker might be.
I’m concerned it could be aiptasia but it has only slowly grown over a month or so and it has not reproduced to my knowledge. It also doesn’t look like aiptasia that I’ve seen.
Any help would be...
I have absolutely no clue what these things are. They came on some LFS live rock, which I believe originated from the Indo-Pacific. They have no holes, feel quite tough, do not bend, and have small “tufts” on their spikes. They also do not appear to have grown since I introduced them a few weeks...
I see these stringy things coming out of the sand all the time. I believe the worm stays under the sand and puts the strings out. I saw it on the glass and tried to take some pictures. Let me know if you can identify this. Thanks
