I'm a very new reef keeper having had my tank for about 6 weeks now. Just to establish the basics, it's a used tank (Fluvial Flex 32.5) that came with mature media and some live rock. The sand is new, but live and I added dryrock.
Parameters that I know are below:
Temp 78-78.5
PH 8.4 API
Nitrites/Ammonia 0 API
Nitrates 10-15 API
Alk dkh 8-8.3 Salifert
Ca 380-410 Salifert
Fritz blue box salt
OR lights set 12 inches above water 5% white and 40% blue
The zoa in question I've had for about 3 1/2 weeks. It was bought at a lfs unnamed, but I believe it to be a green agave? It has since grown 4 new polyps. The first looks just like the rest, the next 3 are completely different. I don't have a filter so true colors are a bit off, but the new polyps are a brownish copper color with goldish specks, pink center, and bright green mouth. Also, a light powder blue ring just inside the skirt.
After a bit of research I know that zoa's can morph into other colors depending on conditions and placement with other zoas. These aren't right by any other zoas so that should not be the case and they don't look like the other 2 relatively close by(dragon eyes and orange oxides).
So I'm assuming it has to do with lighting or water. All 10 zoa/palys that I have are producing new polyps and all, but this one look as expected.
So my question, if this frag is kept in the same spot, will it continue to produce these new morphs or will it ever go back to producing the original? If the new polyps are fragged and placed elsewhere, would they keep producing the same or would they go back to the original?
