So more than once, I’ve heard reefing compared to “Living Art”. And I like that title! I definitely want my tank to not just look it’s very best, especially when friends or family are coming over. But to have some “wow factor” that my guests notice within seconds of viewing. I’m always attracted to art in stores that my wife and I shop at. And for the most part it’s all just okay. But there are times when a drawing or painting or print just catches my eye. In my tank a combination of lighting on my zoa garden or neon green long tentacle toadstool has a similar affect on my guests. My “Living Art” seems to have that same affect on my guests.
1. What is the “wow factor” artistically speaking in your reef?

Goni garden , St Thomas mushroom rock , og bounce mushrooms , other bounce mushrooms . Sps , blasto rock etc . I can’t speak for any guests but there is too much to list and no way to know what attracts other people . But I keep the tank sparkling clean as I can and I get entranced every time I look at it and I still enjoy the spoils of my labor and everything in the tank . When people come over and comment positively I wear it as a badge of honor . The art factor in my tank is a collaborative effort of every aspect . Not just one Particular thing . Any art is in the eye of the beholder and the same picture has different meaning to different people. Most important is I do this for myself and the fact that other enjoy it as well is a bonus !!! That’s my Wow factor!!!

For me, it started with the rockscape. The rest just sort of designs itself. Like painting blind sometimes. Another form of tank art is the room it is in. For me, that is a work in progress as the room is 10x10 with a credenza and hutch on window wall, desk 3 feet in front of tank and closet behind me. Tank is 79x26x26 so the tank is the centerpiece of the room with even the lights and 2 control board contributing to the overall look. Less than prob. 15-18 inches on each side of tank lol's. My job now is to organize and make the walls reflect both me and the tank. Right now there is fish tools hanging all over lols and give it all a finished look and to keep creating inside the tank

Inside, there is a zoa garden, 3 palys rocks, a hairy mushroom rock, a rhodactis rock and areas where I want wavy corals, and sps reaching for the moon so to speak. Colors are important to me, both corals and fish

My canvas....
