I have a purple pin cushion urchin. I noticed last night before the lights went out that it was positioned on a rock just under the base of my neon green toadstool that I recently purchased. This morning, when lights began to come on, I noticed the urchin on top of the toadstool, moved it to a different rock and noticed that there was a small area of white on top of the toadstool where the urchin had been. I don’t know if it was consuming the coral, or me pulling the urchin off caused it. Has anyone ever had a pincushion eat soft coral?

Thanks!

Do you supplement the urchins feedings or just allow them to graze the tank? My one is in a 55 and I will give it green or Red Sea weed a couple of times a week but I hadn’t fed it for about a week or so before this happened. However I see green algae and some brown algae on the rocks and glass throughout the tank. So I figured it had enough to eat.
I have 3 pincushion urchins in with leathers including a very large toadstool but have not seen them on the corals.

They just cruise the tank but there is a lot of grazing area.
Toadstools can get a white spot when they shed or get irritated.

Ok thank you for the info! I am new to corals all together and started with a toadstool so the white spot info is good to know.

I had a purple urchin eating my Star Polyps. He'd mow right over and decimate them about every 3 weeks, I got rid of the urchin finally, now I have a nice little clump of star polyps.

I also had too get rid of mu urchin. It sat on an Acan colony, and a grazed off several of the Polyps. I wonder if they are going for the Algae in the outer ring of the Acans?
