Breeders usually cull those but honestly with all the weird morphs like zombie and such I don't see how it's any different to keep that one alive and give it a fancy name. Clowns are the saltwater guppies...maybe we will eventually have a balloon variety.

I think all that matters at this point is that you like him and hopefully he remains healthy. The breeder should have given you a discount but people are greedy I guess

The clown is worth whatever you were willing to pay for it, don't worry how much other people may be able to buy it for. You seem to like the coloration and the fish so just be happy with the fish you have and enjoy it. Just pay closer attention the next time so you know what you are getting.

to get myself one.
This is Tony and Ziva. Tony has the dirty tail. Getting a good pic was impossible since it’s almost feeding time and, of course, when they saw me, they got all silly. Sorry that I don’t know how to rotate the pic :-(

The flat nose is a common birth defect in fancy clowns. The further away they are from the wild colour morphs the higher the rate of defects. I have been told by a breeder they expect +20% of each batch to have birth defects when breeding black storms.

Defects are typically the fault of the breeder. The most common issue that causes defects is poor water quality.

No one knows for sure why captive clowns have smashed aka "bulldog" heads but I believe it's a combination of water quality and not keeping the babies off of the walls of the grow out tanks prior to metamorphosis. They tend to hit their heads, which I think develops into flat heads.

I cull all babies with flat heads and other visible defects. It's hard to convince other breeders to do the same, since we each have our own standards and reasons for breeding. I tend to promote quality over quantity. But it's also not my livelihood.

I don't think how far away they are from wild makes any difference. Two wild clowns can have babies with tons of defects.

Any percentage given by a breeder is their own percentage, not a standard.
