(FOWLR TANK) so I just came home with this copper band yesterday and he was in a tank i was too short to properly see. (i used my iphone camera to watch him like a jumbo tron lol) Now that he’s in my tank i noticed he has some issues. my dad who does freshwater is suspecting parasites and says i should dose with paragaurd. I wanted to come on here and get some saltwater opinions I did notice my angel has been acting like a cleaner shrimp and trying to pick them off. should i separate them to lower the risk of him being affected as well?

Thanks Guys!

Could be picking at the damaged area just the same.
Of course if you are thinking parasites, separate.

Does he eat?
Swim, act, breath what appears to be normal?

If so I’d wait and watch for one of those to show itself.

May have scrape, a bite, hard for me to tell.

I don’t see one white dot on the fins.

Not the easiest fish to see parasites, and sometimes, they show late.

Looks like injury or possibly uronema starting to show. What other fish are in the tank?

Your copperband is very skinny/malnourished and will need a lot of nutritious foods to hopefully recover. Is it eating?

Antibiotics in a QT tank would probably be helpful as this fishes immune system is likely low due to poor condition.

Live worms, clams (I buy fresh from grocery), frozen LRS food, live freshly hatched BABY brine, fed several times a day. It needs to eat, like today. It has no reserves and I honestly would be surprised if it survives at this point.

The angelfish is a facultative parasite cleaner species. The copper and is posturing for it to be cleaned. However, the cleaning process can cause additional skin damage.

The angular mark above the black spot could be Uronema, hopefully not as that is an internal protozoan that really isn’t treatable.

The most likely parasite to be “cleaned” by angelfish are flukes. You can treat those with praziquantel.

As @Tamberav said, the copper and is also thin, that needs to be corrected (tough to do with this species!) because the fish needs energy to fight off any infection.

thank you, i plan on isolating him today. he’s been eating and actively scavenges in the rock work. but hopefully some more direct feeding will help speed the process along. he is one of the more active fish in my tank at the moment… when i bought him lfs said he was adjusted to food there as well.

breaths seem normal not labored or anything like that.

is there any detriments to dosing my DT just incase? also if it is uronema what is my best course of action?

right now i have
1 firefish
2 cardinal fish
1 juvi emp angel
1 lyretail anthias
1 mandarin dragonette
