-If you were purchasing soft corals only-

Would you rather put them in an observation/qt tank for, say 1 week to settle in after shipping, then remove the plugs, dip, rinse with tank water and add them to your DT in an acclimation box to attach to rubble? Or give them a week, remove the plugs, dip/rinse and let them heal/attach to a new plug in observation for 6 weeks at 81 degrees?

According to Humblefish soft corals with no hard surface attached (i.e frag plug/rubble/etc.) only need to be rinsed before adding to tank. Every single thing that has went into my tank has been QT'd so this is an important step for me with the first round of corals but I am over thinking things and scared to mess it up. So, assuming QT'ing is important to you, what would you do?

I have a rule to make this simple. If its wet put them in for at least 40 days . if avoiding ich and other naughty pathogens.

I dip 3 times once before they go in half way through and day they go into main. Unless pest discovered. Sometimes I cheat and only wait 30 to 35 days so far no ich 2.5 years. Also means you gotta treat all new fish with copper.

Whatever you choose just know even 1 week of qt is probably better then 50% of reefers.

Whatever works for you just know this hobby is all about risk management over enjoyment.

Next Numbers are estimates for example so no one take these as the holy truth lets say odds of frag having ich tomant on it 1 in 25. Odds are most releases in first 3 to 14 days.

Now after 2 weeks i have 80% less chance of 1/25. After 30 days i have a 90-99% after 35 95-99.99% after 42 to 99.99% to 100 of the 1/25. Now i dip kills free swimmers. Now lets say 80%to 99% of free swimmers in tank die before finding a host.

Now I read ich attches to fish at night more because they are sleeping so i add frags during the day.

Now after 30 days at 80 plus degrees I have a .00004% chance of catching ich from frag or snail.

I have 16 frags in qt right now ranging from ready to 5 weeks to go. I might cheat and wait 5 weeks.... Sorry for rant just my thoughts.

Thank you for the thoughtful response!

Every fish has been treated and sat through quarantine along with CUC and aquacultured rocks so I definitely don't want to mess up years of hard work over a few weeks lol I am just nervous qt'ing corals since I have never had them and figured the sooner I could get them in the DT the better off they would be

I cycled my qt with a large clean rock and poured tank water in it. I also had a little rock from my tank.

Let it sit for a month or 2 without light on and only have a powerhead heater and a light.

If you dont have fish in it and test your salinity and alk and let it be most softies and lps will do fine even. Just want to check salinity on the regular cause small tanks evaporate.

I also water change half a gallon 5% twice a week cause i have snails. I used a marker to mark water level to help with salinity.

You'll do great!
