Hello!

I’ve been really getting into aquarium photography and I started thinking it would be cool to sell prints (or even digital photos files for people to print themselves).

Does anyone know if there is a market out there for this? Would you buy coral/fish photo prints?

Appreciate any insights here. Thanks!

(Not sure why this wouldn’t be allowed, but if it isn’t feel free to remove from the forum)

There may very well be some who would be interested. Myself? Only if I took the pic myself.

Eventually, I'm gonna get into Astrophotograhy. My plan is to get a 12" reflector and hook up a camera to.get some planetary, nebulae and galaxy shots. Star clusters too. Give it go, man. Ya really have nothing to lose! And it's fun!

Thank you for the feedback. I definitely get that, I was wondering if others felt the same.

I’m leaning towards not much to lose, but I wanted to make sure it could be worth doing before putting in the work to design everything and also pay a monthly fee to list stuff.

Not really sure there would be a market. Personally I would not be interested. With a tank in my living room, dining room and bedroom I have no need for aquarium art work. I used to be a pretty serious amatuer and we have photos that I've taken through the years printed and framed but they are moments in time from our past so they have meaning to us. I love to see others photography and admire many of the photos but have no desire to display someone elses images.

I do have prints of my own photographs around my tank. Though im on vacation right now so I can’t show. My LFS sells some stickers of reef art/photography and I have one on my laptop so I could see your prints selling.

Some Reefers like them. I tried selling photos at shows in my area, but found that most people just wanted coral. I ended up giving some away as gifts. So now I make them for myself and paint a neon overlay for blue and black lights in the Reef Cave.

This is extremely helpful— this was the kind of feedback I was hoping for. I was skeptical this would be the case. Sounds like there is really small market, but overall not much interest.

I wouldn’t completely write it off. I think the reason some Reefers are skeptical is because some artists want hundreds of dollars for one print. If you have an awesome photo at a good price, there may be some interest. But if you enjoy making them, don’t let the market preclude you from doing so, imo.

And while this may not be the place for selling prints, there are several places that you'd have a decent shot. For example, if you know someone who has a booth where they sell wares at festivals and whatnot, you could probably have them put up a few to see if you get bites on that circuit. I go to as many of those as possible, as I find some very unique things. At the last one I went to, I saw a booth with paintings going from $100 to $1200. LOL, one sale could make her entire day profitable! It isn't something that most people can make a living at (I've only known one dude who pulled that off), but plenty of people do it to supplement their income on a random weekend here and there. Etsy is another possibility. Use your imagination and ask around. If you have an interest in something I'm a a HUGE believer in trying, at the very least. With a booth, the cost is about $150 for a four walled 'tent', $50 for weights to hold it down, $30 for a table and chair and $100 for misc stuff. But I digress......Sorry for the long post!
