Awesome thread. I have a question about the sump - do you think that the compartment with the media baskets could be converted into a refugium with a bit of live rock and macroalgae? I imagine with the baskets removed there might just be enough space?

My 6 year old son refused to go to sleep until I subscribed so that we could have a chance at winning. Well actually he said he already knows we have to be the winner because when reading some of the contest info to him, he found out: “wait, so dad…you’re telling me that this contest is the same day as my birthday?!”
He started with a Betta and has graduated to a 10 gallon, freshwater tank. The rest is what he told me ”you definitely have to tell them”. I’ll paraphrase to make for a more, sensible read….but that he’s saving and earning enough to pay half the cost of a 40 gallon tank (he’s a convincing negotiator) as he is all about Demasoni Cichlids at the moment. For now, he’s the proud “dad” of one platie and one swordtail…who he says “are pretty much best friends”.
That said, he said i need to say thank you now since, as mentioned, he’s already decided we just have to win (though I did reset his expectations and explain how these contests really work”, and lastly to make sure “you tell them goodnight since it’s late and see you later”. So with that, I think he said it better than what I could have…so I’ll end it there as he’s given me permission to do so.

How quickly do your gyres drop gph?
Just wondering. I have a Maxspect Jump 2K gyre on my 40 long. Seems like it is continually dropping flow strength and sometimes has difficulty switching from forward to reverse and vice versa. I gave it a good wipe down about a week ago and it is already slowing down. I don't know what a...
