I live where anything reefing is pretty bleak. Now the LFS is actually getting a constant supply of fish and they stripped down their coral frag tank and actually have it dialed in and not full of Aptasia.

They have proper racking n bare bottom tank. It's doing very well in the short time it's been running. He has a nice selection of corals and they seem to mostly be doing quite well.

So this leads me to a question for all the pros in here. Why would his Coral supplier tell him to raise the magnesium as high as you can possibly get it?

I know fragbox says he runs his system around 1600 mag. Is there any type of real benefits to jacking up the magnesium? I really can't find any credible info on searching the interweb and why I figured I would ask y'all. Apparently this supplier sells to fragbox and a number of other shops here in Canada.

I have only heard of this for Bryopsis control, but perhaps there is another purpose?

Is it supposed to be dosed as a Bolus?

No idea, I asked the shop owner and he just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders and said I don't know! That's what his supplier said to do and I figured maybe it had to do with stability for the frags or maybe make them grow faster, I don't know myself.

People say it kills bryopsis

Others say it was another ingredient in Kent's Reef SomethingOrOther that had mg in it. And only worked for that one product

Dunno, never had bryopis

Another reason is for matching parameters

Reef Crystals mixes hot with MG

But I just saw a video with Reefbox and Tidal Gardens(uses RCs). It doesn't appear Reefbox uses that

I'm going with match parameters to save dieoffs

If the guy you buy frags from is running 1600 Mg

And you have 1400 Mg

What do you thing will happen to the frags you buy from him?

I think I know

Sorry maybe you misunderstood my question and I apologize if I wasn't clear about it. Is using Red Sea black bucket mix for his Coral tank and his supplier for some reason told him to get the Magnesium up as high as he possibly can. That was his own words that he spoke to me. When I asked him why so much he said he didn't know. His system is only a couple months old and definitely doesn't have biopsis. And no I don't buy my Coral from the lsf as I know there is Aptasia in the system but nothing visible in the DT.

I didn't see a question in that post

Maybe he thinks it kills Aptasia

I have no idea what they are thinking

I was just sleuthing with no viable details or information

From my own personal experiences my dunacans turned a lot more green when I upped my mag

Differences in mag and lighting are a big reasons it's common for ppl to complain about their frags not being as colorful after acclimating

Not to mention aquaculture facilities probably seperate their corals by ideal parameters unlike mixed reefs

Unless fritz has magic glow green glow juice in it that was all I increased really

Now I just gotta save up for some aliexpress knockoff radions

As high as he possibly can? I’ve never determined what the limit is, but it may be thousands of ppm.
