Hi guys,

My white tail bristletooth tang is sick, he looked healthy just a couple of days ago, didn't see him much yesterday and this morning he is dwelling on the floor and obviously looking sick.

Can anyone help me with a diagnosis and possible treatment? I'm in Europe so copper is unavailable unfortunately.

Sorry to hear but appears to have been infested with velvet which can kill quickly. Any other fish in tank may have been exposed and will need immediate treatment with coppersafe at 2.25 to avoid same results. Display tank will need to be Without fish for 6-8 weeks to allow this flagellate to die off without fish to host on

Hi thank you for your reply, there is no coppersafe or copperpower available in the EU. The only alternative I can see is Cupramine from Seachem.

Hi thank you for your reply, there is no coppersafe or copperpower available in the EU. The only alternative I can see is Cupramine from Seachem.

Cupramine is not quite as safe, but it is better than regular ionic copper. Don't use Cupramine with ammonia removers, and you need to test carefully to hold the dose between 0.5 and 0.6 ppm

In looking at the video, the tang has some white spots that resemble ich, but the rapid breathing and cloudy skin, combined wiht the rapid death, all point to velvet (Amyloodinium) as @vetteguy53081 said.

Thanks all. I'm leaving on a two week trip starting next Friday, very inconvenient meh.

A baby blue tang is also affected, was initially thinking on using the ATO tank as a hospital tank but that is way too small for all of the fish.
