White blob. Need an ID.

I've had my tank for about 1 1/2 years, never had any problems. I have a rock flower anenome, spiny star snails, blue leg hermits, clownfish and an short spines urchin.
My pump transformer exploded about a month and a half ago. Killed my emerald crab, shrimp, zoas and I've had problems ever since. Now I have a bunch of these vermetid worms popping out and this weird blob thing. I tried looking it up but I haven't had much luck. Not much of anything useful comes up under white blob...help! Lol

Will replacing the rock get rid of the vermetid snails?

It may be a sponge. Is that green hair algae growing in clumps in there? or do my eyes deceive me?

It is a sponge and nothing to be concerned with. Replacing the rock will obviously eliminate them on that rock, but if there is a good population on it then you likely have some elsewhere also.

It is hair algae. It grows on that rock like hair on someone's head lol. I put some on the other one cause my crab likes to eat it. He had a hard time getting up there. RIP buddy.
Thanks for the replies. I was worried it was some kind of egg sack that was going to burst and take over. Guess I've been watching to many alien films. Thanks for the responses!!

Leave the sponge alone. These are mostly white ball sponge cleaning, doing what they can to keep a cryptic zone tidy.

Doesn't appear to be sponge, but could be snail eggs. Pics a bit blurry, either sponge or eggs.

I’ll see about a different picture. The camera was at an awkward angle to the glass due to obstructions I didn’t want to deal with.

Vermatid are snails, not worms and they can irritate corals. I have them too and they come and go, I think I'm at the end of a cycle of this particular batch. They seem to like dirty water, when I go a long time without water changes (months), they start coming back. From what I've read there are some wrasse that will eat them but I haven't had luck with that. Your best bet is using bone cutters or a pair of dykes to smash the base of their tubes. Cutting just the tube won't kill them. I've only had them bother a couple softies and for the most part I've stopped fighting them because they don't bother me.

Agree that white blob is a sponge, they're great and not considered pests that I'm aware of.

It's most likely a sponge. I just don't know if it's a ball sponge, branching or encrusting.
