I am looking to build a tank here in the next 5 years and want to plan it out. I want to go big between 300-500 gallons for the total system. I think I am starting to want a tank around 5x5 foot and 18 inches deep. I like looking thru the water and see the fish/corals/live rock/etc…
but I want to know what your favorite tank shape is(with estimated gallon size) that would make it the perfect tank for you? I want some more ideas and I want to see you all’s dream tanks. show me what you got!

5x5x3 very little rock, room for fish to swim. Not a bunch of frags, big colonies. Corals that look good under full spectrum lighting so you can see the fish

Are you 7 ft tall? How will you do maintenance in the center of the tank?

Ive always preferred the basic rectangle, I like having the extra length for tangs to have longer lengths to swim.
Everytime I look at having a custom tank built I always seem to build the tank somewhere around 10x2x2.

So what if I did a 13.5 ft long, 2 feet wide and 2 feet tall? This would give me a total of 408 gallons. I want to be over the 400 gallon mark and I think this will be best for cleaning and also maintenance from what you guys have said here.

what y’all think?

Go 30" wide then it will be 505 gallon. You want a tank that long to have some viewing distance too. Actually if you make it a peninsula you could go even wider. Ryan's 360 is 4ft x 5.5ft. x 26" and he's managing.

For reef tank rectangle. 8x2.5x2 would be my setups.

However I would really like to build an indoor pond that is about 6' in diameter and 30" deep. Sharks, rays, eels, triggers etc etc. That would be a dream

What would be the reason for wider? Other than viewing? Just curious. I’m still trying to figure this tank thing out if you can’t tell.

A shark pond would be dope!!! I wish I could. One day I want to build a basement home with a huge tank that I will need to scuba dive to clean! Have like 2-3 different kinds of sharks/ clown harems and schools of tangs! That would be so cool!!! But gotta start somewhere right?!
