I have a 30 gallon tank that I am setting up to become a Saltwater Aquarium. I have a good amount of knowledge in freshwater and now am getting into saltwater. I have found a couple RO/DI systems that I like and I am wondering on you guys' opinions.
LiquaGen- 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis & Deionization
Max Water 6 Stage Aquarium Reverse Osmosis System
BRS 4 STAGE RODI

I live in Houston, TX and the water here has chloramines in it so I need some help. I would have to get the 6 stage RODI system for chloramines right? Please let me know if you guys have any experience with these specific systems or what to do about my situation or if you guys could recommend other systems that I should check out.

I love my aqua fx barracuda the 100gpd one is 220 on amazon now may find it cheaper elsewhere though. Mine is almost 20 years old never had to replace anything other than filters and membranes.

Do you guys know any cheaper ones? I need one that is around $150-$200 but I would like for it to be on the $150-$170 side as I only have a 30 gallon tank.
Maybe one that is under that amount would be great.

Saltwater is about keeping pristine water the most important aspect of our hobby and the one thing most people want to skimp on for some reason. You can find cheaper units but they end up using more filters costing more shortly after purchase. Quality materials save money quickly even with a small tank. You put the bra 4 stage which is the same cost as the 50gpd which is why I suggested the one I did. Air water and ice also have quality units as well.

I also have another question, I have an RODI under my kitchen sink that was installed for drinking water. Could I use that one? From what people have told me, it apparently adds minerals to the water to make it taste good to us which could harm the fish and coral. Is that true?

In the grand scheme of things, $30-50 extra isn’t much for this hobby. If you want something that’ll save you money just browse the for sale ads for a used one; join a local reefing forum (not this one) and I’m sure many pop up for sale, facebook etc. this hobby isn’t one about saving money, it’s about doing it right from the beginning.

Yeah I ended up picking a 200gpd RO system off facebook and just got a DI from bulkreefsupply and the setup seems to work good.

If you don’t mind spending a little money I love my brs rodi water system, I have the 7 stage and have no problems. They say a stage 4 is good for most but I got the 7 just in case. Always go with your gut though

Just a tip too, I seen people drilling in their sink pipes and all types of bs, if you are renting like me I just got a splitter for my cold water faucet for my washer machine and I was able too connect it too that. And I ran my dirty drain water line where the washer machine drain line is, it was super easy process. Make sure you let it run for 1 hour too prime and dump all of that water as it’s bad, after that you are good too go

I ended up buying a 200gpd 5 stage RO system and then added a brs DI to it to make a pretty good setup.

I own my home so I can just modify to where I like but I ended up just using the Hose Bib Adapter that came with the RO system and just plugged my outdoor garden hose pipe into it, it leaks slightly like a drop per second but I just put that over my waste bucket and it is good.
