I need a lens for Christmas activities. Right now my choices are 18-200 3.5-5.6, 70-300 4.5-5.6 or 70-200 2.8. They're all VR. It's going to be indoor low light so I was thinking about the 70-200. I wanted a telephoto zoom. The only reason I even considered the 70-300 is because it was a little cheaper but not by much to rent. Oh and this is for a D200.
Well, photogs let me know what you guys think.

i could be wrong...but i've got a 70-300 i believe lens and in order to get a decent picture of somebody's whole body I need to be like 30 ft away. I just picked up a 17-55 lens for more interior stuff. Maybe somebody with a little more camera knowledge can say if I'm correct or not? hope that helps!

oh and I will be about 100-200 feet away so I won't be extremely close by anymeans. I have the 18-70 kit lens and 105 macro but the 18-70 I couldn't really get a good pic.

The 70-200 is by far the best lens on your list, but for indoor holiday pictures, it may not be the best choice.

I would look for a 24-70 2.8, or a 50 1.8....

I'm looking at rentglass.com if you want to take a look. Only other lens they have that I would consider is the 85 1.4 or 1.8 but I kinda wanted a zoom. Only reason I'm using this site is because I need the lens by Wednesday and this place is on the way going home.

Those are great lenses! AWESOME for ambient light, and portraits, but they may be to long for group shots.

You can always zoom with your feet! ;)

Thanks for the input, I'll check them out when I go to pick up the lens. I have the 70-200 on reserve right now. I'm more worried about the distance though, but I'll try both out before I choose.
