I bought some Ocean Nutrition pellets to feed my fish once my TDO Chroma Boost ran out and once I opened one of the containers today I saw that the pellets are too big for the fish to eat! What do I do now? I tried soaking the food and feeding it but that didn't work. Should I break them up with a mortar and pestle or a blender? Or is there any other solution to this? I cannot return these pellets.

You can soak the food in tank water for 10 to 15 minutes. Another option is to dump the whole bottle in a small blender/food processor with the blade attachment and pulse till the majority of the food is the size your fish can eat.

I use a cheap pepper grinder
A mortar and pestle should work.
I was told that breaking the pellets up and using them would cause problems in the aquarium like elevated nutrients and other problems... But I never faced that Issue with freshwater fish food when keeping freshwater fish

Grinding and using them won't cause much problems will it? I was told that it will cause the nutrients to be elevated and it may cause other problems with the water and fish as well, but I never really faced any issues like that when I did this with my freshwater fish and their food

If you're seeing food hit the ground then yeah, this could cause problems down the road.

Depending on how many fish you have in the tank, just feed a few pellets at a time. (small portions) Don't throw the whole lot in the tank and walk away. Just as an example when I use flake food I soak them in a cup of water and then pour in a small amount. Maybe 10 minutes later I'll do this again and so on and so fourth. Everything is being consumed. GL.

You can go buy a some smaller sized pellets, they come in various sizes. Give or sell the large ones that you are not using.

Next time get smaller pellets for sure. Regarding grinding I'd try to avoid putting any resulting powder in the tank.

I have relatively fine sand so the food stays on top and usually the fish cleans that up within a minute or so
I also keep the flow off at that time to prevent the food from flying everywhere into the rocks
I do that with my flakes but these pellets are like 3mm in size so they don’t really soften up that easily
I currently have
6 chromis
2 clowns
1 tomini tang
1 blue tang
1 fox face
1 firefish
1 Coris wrasse
1 cleaner wrasse
1 leopard wrasse

It’s kinda hard to sell these here, people don’t usually buy from hobbyists, only sellers
I used to use TDO chroma boost, I’ll probably shift to something with similar size of that once these finish

Yeah I’m not getting the M size anymore for sure

And I was thinking of that so I thought of sifting the food after lightly crushing them up to get rid of most of the fine powders?

When I bought the wrong sized pellets once I just pressed them lightly with the side of a butter knife and they broke into smaller pieces. Then I feed in small portions to make sure they didn't end up in the sand. It is easy and quick enough that I just crushed what I planned to feed that time. I would not grind or use a mortar/pestle as that will tend to make a lot of fine powder.

I place within a paper towel and lightly tap with hammer. You dont want to beat it to powder form
