What is wrong with my torch?

This is my first torch in this tank, i got it 4 days ago. Parameteters listed below. What is wrong with my torch?
Phosphate: 0.03
NItrate:0
Alk:10.2
Calcium: 430
Tested with hanna for nitate, alk and phosphate and salifert for calcium

If it was in the tank longer I'd say its starving. Your nitrate and phosphate are extremely low. But only 4 days either it was damaged after it arrived in the tank or in route to the tank. I dont see any signs of bjd. Fish or inverts (shrimp/crabs) picking at it? Flow to strong in that location? It can be hard to judge from a pic a video would show the flow better.

Your nutrients are almost bottomed out. Also, the water looks cloudy. Could you take a full picture of the tank?

The water is a little cloudy for sure, i will need to get a water change done tonight. There are 5 small monos in there which i dont think did this, it was conpletely fine yesterday. Hereʻs a photo

So that is damage most likely. Can you get a video of the flow in that area? Best to post it to youtube and link here. It is completely possible the monos picked at it for that to happen overnight. I have never kept monos so I dont know how "reef safe" they are. Very cloudy how long has this been set up? Bacterial bloom, or phyto cant tell.

Another question. How old is the tank? I didn’t attempt torches for several months after I set up my first tank…they like a tank that’s matured a bit and is stable

That’s about the minimum I’d be happy with for myself. I’ve done it sooner but only because it was a total tank transfer/upgrade. Another thing, flow needs to fairly strong but not excessive. And that cloudy water worries me. Bacterial bloom can cause that.

Do you use rodi or tap water? Are you dosing anything into the tank? At 4 months old tank I expect to see a lot more green. Also a bit unusual to have bacteria bloom at this stage. What kind of lights and filtration do you have?

Rodi water, dosing afr, 4 bulb t5 fixture 48 in. Protien skimmer for filtration

Mono is a less common fish to have in a reef. But I did it

I had a 15 head torch colony and the mono never showed an interest.

Was gonna say hope that tank is big because monos can be aggressive with each other, I remember researching this and seeing I could only keep one. Then I checked your build page. 225 g. No issues there. Enjoy the Monos. Mine was a model reef citizen.

Can you tell us what type of rock is that?
It looks unusual.

Looks like you had a polyp bail out.

Where did you buy this from our do you know there parameters?

As said, could be damage in transit or possibly something that happened weeks ago and the tank transition made it bail.

Torches can be sensitive to change, shipping, and just stress in general - which is a blanket term for pretty much anything.

I would consider myself an experienced torch keeper with a well established tank, and many high end torches. Over the last year I’ve probably added 5 torches.
The first 3, no issues.

2 weeks ago I added torch 4. Splitting head. Arrived in good shape. Opened nicely for 2 weeks all is good

A couple days ago, I added another, torch 5. Opens nicely, all is good.

Today I’m looking at the tank - torch 4, the splitting head one, has bjd. Everyone else is fine.

I cleaned it up and dipped (15 min lugols, then 15min hydrogen peroxide), hoping it takes a turn for the better. If it doesn’t, I’m escalating to kfc dip it.

Point of all of this? It can happen to anyone, and they may not even be anything wrong with your system. We will try to help confirm placement and flow and parameters, save existing heads if needed, but if it doesn’t work out, don’t feel bad. Could have got one that was sick or declining from the start, crab or fish could have irritated that polyp, who knows. Being that yours has only been in the tank for 4 days, it’s still adjusting. Might need low flow or light in the beginning while it adjusts and strengthens up before being able to go to a more intense area.

Did you check for pests? The one time I ordered from SBB the [wild] torch went downhill due to some pest [believe coral boring spionid worms] being in the skeleton. Spotted at night it touching the torch tissue. No knock on SBB but I won't buy again

No UV, have not checked for pests.

UV is about the main thing that will clear it up quickly (1-3 days). Otherwise it will have to run its course (days to weeks)

I use an Innovative Marine UV. Also popular is the Green Killing Machine, available at Petco, etc.
