I really really like butterflies. I like tangs, but my tank being a 4' 120g my lust of suitable, lifeling tangs isn't huge. That said there's several butterflies that would fit in my tank and I've really considered. I wonder if it's better or of little significance to add them to a coral free tank and add corals or to a tank with established corals?Yellow headed jawfish. Extremely under rated, very affordable if you buy diver direct from Florida, like living in colonies, and amazing personalities. Excellent tankmates for seahorses! I have a trio in with my ponies and pipefish, and they are just such awesome little fish.
On a similar note, I think butterflies are completely underrated. So many people avoid them because they may eat coral, but most are probably safe with the majority of corals. They usually only eat one or two species, not everything under the sun, and with some experimentation and removal of whatever corals they like, may be a perfect fish for a lot of people. Again, they may eat certain corals, they may eat all the corals, or none at all, just have to experiment and see.
I think bigger colonies stand a better chance, but certain things like zoas, fleshy LPS, etc are more likely to get eaten.I really really like butterflies. I'm just waiting for my tank tp finish stabilizing, but I can't wait to start adding corals! That looks great!I think bigger colonies stand a better chance, but certain things like zoas, fleshy LPS, etc are more likely to get eaten.
I added corals after (just went in today actually), but tried to do a LOT at once, larger sizes, and less palatable (montipora, palys, GSP, Pavona, shrooms, leathers, etc).
Honestly, not many of my fish are viewed as truly common and I don’t get why. Some were more expensive than others (I.e. The Laboute’s Wrasse, Kuiter’s Leopard and Kaleidos Pencil) but even the species like the Twistii weren’t a bad price for their ‘rarity’.Well, basically what the title says! Are there any fish that I, as a new reefer, or maybe even long time experienced reefers might overlook or never really hear much of? Maybe they're rather boring color wise but perform awesome tank benefits. Maybe they're really gorgeous but overshadowed by another species that's more popular and because of that you don't see them at the LFS.
Maybe not quite the same category but I think snails are awesome and very overlooked.Well, basically what the title says! Jawfish are by far my favorite group of fishThat's awesome! I'd never even considered them! I've heard of jawfish but I feel like I usually end up scrolling through live aquarium or some similar site and always look at the same species/types of fish. I had to google these.
