So I have been struggling with the controller or no controller question. I have a new in the box APEX Lite, which I had a thread on here, but it seems it might be a hassle to adapt to new technology. I wish the Energy Bar 8 in it could be used as a good power strip, but as it is relay controlled it would not make sense. So here is what I have now:
75g, with lids, so not planning on an ATO. Tank is in our LR, wife says lids, so I can live with that trade-off.
2 Vortech MP10mQD, so will run those off Mobius app
2 Radion XR15 Pro, again, Mobius app
Innovative Marine Helio with redundant elements, so was not planning on another monitor with them.
1 Vortech and the heater will be running off a 600wH battery back up
Fluval FX6, so no sump
Tunze 9004 in tank skimmer
As I am doing corals, down the road I may need dosing, so that's a valid get a controller reason, but right now I just don't know what I gain, other than leak detection alarm, and with no sump I'm at less risk for that.
I feel like maybe just an individually switched power strip may be my best option right now. I know the DJ rack mounts seem popular here, but I noticed someone on one of the forums took one apart, and it was not well built, so maybe my best bet is to order one online.
Or should I get a base controller now that I can then upgrade later? I don't want to have a similar situation to my APEX Lite, where in a couple of years it's old technology, so just hoping for some perspectives here. Thanks
