Pardon the algae on the glass but I saw these things running around the sandbed tonight and I'm wondering what they are? They look like some sort of crustacean but honestly have no idea.

Amphipods, good guys.

They are an important part of the ecosystem.

There are some bad species of them, but afaik there have only been a handful of cases of getting them and pretty sure the bad ones are typically black.

Thank you. I thought that was a good thing but anything new makes me nervous a little. I've tried from the beginning to have a healthy and varied biome. Hopefully this is a good sign.

It is a good sign!

Also, I was well aware of what these things were when my tank first got them a few years ago, but I still ended up panic posting here asking what they were because I got worried haha.

Making me feel better. Lol
I had noticed at the same time that ALL of my macro was gone. Every single bit. Didn't die...but vanished. Another post to R2R and I discovered that my giant turbos I just got will eat it. Same kind as the guy who responded...So both of these things together had me wigged out.
