What am I doing wrong that makes all this stuff form in my AIO filtration section of my tank? (Causes Return Pump to burn out)

That is an awful lot of Esv. I dose 17 ml/day in a 90 gallon, 7 ml/day in a 40 and 2 ml/day in a 15 gallon. You need to determine alkalinity consumption and adjust your dose accordingly.

Just guessing you probably only need 3-4 ml/day.

Soak the pump in vinegar or citric acid.
Came here to say that sounds like a lot of dosing for a 25g tank...

So until I get my Hannah Alk unit in I am going to do the following :

*Ween off a little bit of Alk each day until I get the Hannah checker/water change day (I don't want to stop cold turkey, my Acro and Monti's are pretty happy)
* Take hours to dose rather than pour it all in.

I am going to scrub the filtration section and get as much of that crap out as possible. I cleaned my return pump and the propeller piece, specifically the black part of it was covered in precipitation. I guess these things are finicky if you don't put them back together right it took a couple tries. I have it running in a bucket of tap water to see if it will remain running over night and hopefully I can put it back in the day of the water change.

Then I will start calculating once I get an exact number of my Alkalinity.

those look like chrysophytes, the same growths we rip cleaned out of the prior iteration of the tank. precipitates aren't yellowed masses of slimy material

I've felt it. It might be a bad picture. It isn't slimy. It is very crusty and hard.
I spent time cleaning my return pump and it has encrusted over everything in the back chamber.
Pieces of my sand bed are also solid chunks too.

Hey great news! My alkalinity Hannah checker came in from Amazon!

IMG_20230413_185720162.jpg

Just kidding... it was labeled as Alkalinity but it was Chlorine checker instead.

No idea if .04 is good or bad. I'm assuming bad and should be zero which means I forgot to add dechlorinator to my RO! =) =)

Flying blind until get the right thing!

Ok. Got my Hannah checker in. 9.9 dKH is the reading..

That officially takes the guess work out of my Alkalinity testing.

I am weening the system off of what I was originally putting in which was 25 mL of Alk. I am now down to 15 mL and will be going down again. I didn't want to fall off the cliff since my SPS corals were used to it I guess so I didn't want to shock them.

I had to order this from BRS which is why it took so long for me to get it. Didn't trust Amazon again.
