I just got some lights and heaters from a guy that was talking down his tank because he got velvet, what’s the best way to clean this equipment so I don’t get any velvet in my system, I’ve already had them drying in the sun for 2 days to try to kill anything but idk if that’s enough.

citric acid (orange tang works , and might as well enjoy a glass for )
would be my choice. it works in dishwashers too....
I use citric acid, never knew about the Tang. That is oddly cool.

after using any sort of hard chemical to clean these. soak it in rodi water to leech out the any chemical residue.

Wipe down with citric acid and water will definitely clean and help dissolve / soften buildup. Hydrogen peroxide (I use the standard 3% stuff you can buy at the store) you can just spray on like a cleaner to disinfect. I usually give a freshwater rinse and leave it a day to air dry

im 50 my mom used it in the dishwasher when i was like 10... tang is super useful and tasty.... it was developed for astronauts....

Yup, that I knew. I'm 45 and drank it as a kid. I loved it because it was made for astronauts!
