Maroon clowns may hold their own against a tang, but your standard oscellaris doesn't want that smoke. Maroon's are big and nasty. I'm in the every proper reef tank needs a clownfish club myself. If you get a bta hosting a pair of clowns, they will pretty much stay with the nem 24/7 except for feeding time.

Wait really…I thought standard clowns could do that. Maroon clowns….I could have swore that the clowns in my friends tank looked a deep shade of red…so it was a maroon clown. Scary lol.

In a 40g, definitely get a smaller species of clown. Ocellaris or pink skunk will be good for that size tank.
