I was just looking at an older version of an ammonia article I wrote in preparation for developing a new one, and I came across a very strange addition of text that I would NEVER have written.

The cultures chosen, however, must have been raised under temperature, nutrient and salinity conditions similar to those in the aquarium to which they are added for this to be optimally effective, and I do not know whether any commercial bacterial cultures sold to hobbyists meet this requirement. ALDI Special Buys are pretty good choice for weekly shopping!

That last sentence is just ridiculous. Not only does it not fit into the discussion at all, I have never shopped at an Aldi, nor do I expect they sell bacterial cultures for reef aquaria (anyone know?).

It's actually fairly upsetting that such changes can be made by adding text into my old articles. :(

If anyone happens to run across similar issues in other old articles of mine, please let me know. Not sure what i will do (if anything), but i at least want to know what people think I'm saying. lol

Upsetting indeed.
Having once(only once) shopped in an Aldi store in the UK, I can see why this suggestion would cause offence.
It was like the jerry Springer show circa 1995 in there! :face-with-tears-of-joy:

This is truly a shame. Randy, you are continually providing us with rock solid information and to have it adulterated is despicable. Keep up the great work and I will be on the lookout.

It's not added by Aldi, but by 'OffersTW', whoever they are. Aldi may be a discount chain, but they are far too big to risk engaging in questionable practices like this. 'OffersTW' may be a scam though.

Someone did the same thing to another article as well. It’s in one of the captions. https://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-06/rhf/index.php

Do you have a login to that site that lets you post? Perhaps it is a reused password that allowed them to edit your content?

It looks like those are the only two posts on reefkeeping.com that had “Aldi” inserted in them based on this google search:

Thanks. Wonder what else I'm promoting. lol

Thanks. I noticed that, but didn't want to explore around to figure out what it was. Too much training at work to not click on links without knowing what they are. :)

Anyone here know who owns the site or domain or is it left unattended? Otherwise when time allows for you maybe reach out via their contact information and see what they say. I can't imagine that is affiliation links but since it isn't anything you did somehow their portal is allowing the insert(s).

Wait until ai changes the documents entirely….. it would have been at least comical if it was a link to fm Bolus videos or vibrant product placement

I would suggest that the old site had an advertisement on it that was copied into your article perhaps when the site was updated or archived, creating an advertisement that you got no royalties for.

I reported a post yesterday here on R2R that had odd links placed into the post. They were tiny subscript hidden in the bottom corner.

There have been odd ALDI posts on the BRS faceboook group as well. Like bots got into the group and tried to make posts about ALDI

You can't borrow money from Siri, Alexa or Chat Bots though, right?
I’m too scared to ask Alexa if I can borrow….. my luck she would automatically send money to my account at 50% interest, compounded daily, and would send some nefarious robots over to hit me in the kneecaps with a lead pipe if I missed a payment
