As most n00bs to this hobby probably do i've been reading a lot (here mainly, thank you) and watching a lot of youtube and a couple of weeks ago i was watching BRS Ryan at some show and he revealed a statistic that shocked me - 90% of people taking up reefkeeping give up within a year.

I've not even mixed a drop of water and i'm on the verge of giving up already, some of you may think 'well this aint the hobby for you then', but the thing is, it is.

There needs to be a bit of a prequel here because the current situation is still in motion, as in very fresh (hours old)

A couple of months ago i saw the fluval evo and realised i had a space where a smallish tank could fit and just before purchasing one i was looking at upgrades (media baskets) on ebay and came across a cheap tank close to me, a 275 litre aqua one cube, so i bought it, no problem, tank was sound, needed a clean up but the plan was to upgrade everything anyway - plumbing, lighting, everything, i just wanted tank, sump and stand to start my educational process. I know, evo to 275 litre cube!?!, but my space is limited width wise not height or depth. Anyway...... Decided to upgrade drains to a bean animal system and put in dual returns, so drilled 4 new holes, these were perfect, not a chip, nothing. A few days later a crack across the back was discovered, genuinely it wasnt there when i finished drilling, i meticulously checked, all happy with myself.

I took it on the chin as a lesson learned and ordered a replacement tank, built to the same size etc but with 40mm drains and 25mm returns. I took this as an opportunity to build the same tank but on new foundations and better. Designs were sent over, custom parts were made, measured, photographed and sent to them, all discussed. They delivered the tank today and it's fcked. Drain holes are too close to the glass, they didnt allow for the cabinet frame so i can't put the drains through the cabinet sump hole because theres a crossbrace in the way, emergency overflow is 2 inches off centre, weir is too small to fit a durso, SPECIFICALLY discussed and diagrammed all of these things. I didn't notice initially as the guy was rushing to his next job. It was only when i started to properly look at it i realised these issues, i called him and was told 'fck off idiot'

This was 2 hours ago, i text and said come pick it up - i know they won't.

Now i'm stuck with a tank i can't use and kinda despondant tbh, can't afford a custom stand, don't think its safe to modify the current cabinet, and not confident of building one strong enough.

Don't know if this is venting or seeking solutions, all i know is i'm £1300 quid in and nothing to show for it besides the most awesome HNSA you've ever seen taking up space in the kitchen.

Post some pictures of the situation. Lots of folks have had to modify mulmlike tank builds to handle the complications that arise in these kinds of situations.

As far as drilling glass holes, the tiniest chip with a hairline crack will often spread out across the horizon when a little pressure is put onto the pane from bulkhead attachments, piping, and what not.

The stand builder is a different story. I had custom cabinets built for our home. A drain pipe in the wall cracked and water seeped under the new floor for week until the wall started turning black and we realize something was wrong.

The wall were removed, the new flooring in the entire house, and many of the brand new cabinets were demolished and supposed to have been built back to original. Well the new cabinets, I lost a lot of cupboard space cause they built the boxes to reconstruct, not to fit, and all this to say that these kinds of things can go wrong very quickly. I did not seek justice or revenge because sometimes getting it buried deep inside of the dirty sphincter is just how the world is going to come at you.

BUt wait, there is more. The guy who built my cabinets didn't want to rebuild new ones for me. He's in Jail now, things went bad for him. I feel bad about that. I don't know how the reconstruction business is doing but from many years of experience I know their day is coming, without my help and I feel bad that they have bought themselves their own bad future but I am certain it will catch them eventually.

Stay calm and watch for it, it will happen once they think they got away with it.

Hi!

Maybe you’re not confident about building a stand but it is actually crazy easy so I might suggest you watch a couple of YouTube videos and see how you feel after. I have faith in you. Don’t give up!

Did you pay in cash?

In the states here, I would be filing with my credit card company as wrong item.

Is he an actual business or random person?
