I’ve just set up my first tank (Red Sea Max Nano G2) and paired it with the ReefWave 25.

Ending up mounting this vertically in the back left corner, as it doesn’t impact on the substrate that way it seems. Horizontally was causing chaos with the sand, even at low power.

What schedule should I run this at? Should it be on all the time?

I’ve currently got it running in the day (albeit at 10% at the moment to test it & I’ve just added baby Clowns, so letting them get used to it); then it’s turning off at night (so just the return pump on).

I leave mine on all the time.. at night the power is reduced though. I guess it depends on what kind of corals you plan to keep… in the meantime since I assume you don’t have lots of coral yet, just run it strong enough to keep all the detritus and food waste suspended.

I think this is one of those ‘it depends’ answer. How much flow do you need/want for what you’re keeping, how the flow is performing around your aquascape, where can you place it and what power to run it at to avoid detritus areas, etc. It’s part of ‘dialing’ in your tank - and it will most likely change down the road.

FWIW, I run two opposing wave 45’s at 40% rand most of the day with two 30 minute ‘pushes’ at 50% only forward, and around 20% flow random for a 6 hour period in the middle of the night. Why? Well, it makes sense to me and nothing is responding negatively in the tank.

Have fun!

I leave mine all night.

I know some people turn down the flow, but I would not recommend to turn it off completely, the ocean doesn't stop moving at night.

Thanks all. I clearly need to find the right balance over time. Everybody seems to do different, which is why I’ve been so unsure!

I’ll see how the fish respond to having it on, but adjusting power day vs night.
