I want a little more flow in my 5 gallon aio tank. I am using a no name 160gph fountain pump with a VCA random flow generator for the return. It's been ok with current coral (monti digi, zoas, cyphastrea, rock flower nems) but with the addition of some coral that like more flow (birdsnest, pipe organ, cactus pavona, Nauti Spiral Montipora) I want to increase flow and add more randomization. I have been hearing about the hygger mini for years and thought it would be a good option. A little after I ordered it I saw that its flow can only be reduced down to 40% and other folks have said that its too much flow for a pico tank. I'm worried about blasting my RFAs, duncan, and trumpet with too much flow.
I saw the jebao elw-3 and wonder if that might be a better option?
The hygger has come in the mail and I'm wondering if I should put it in the tank and give it a shot or if it would be better to return it without exposing to saltwater and getting a smaller option (jebao elw-3 or elw-5)?
I suppose another option would be a larger return pump, but there's not much room for a bigger one. I made the all in one insert myself and I dont remember the exact measurements of the return chamber but its around 3"x2.75". I can measure when I get home from work tonight if a bigger return is the better option.
Thank you for any experience and advice you may have to offer!
