So you see how some sps just lay dormant they don’t grow polyps out and just nothing. Is nipping a nub a way to make it grow? Will it encourage it to wake up heal itself and keep growing? What do you think could be the reason why they just lay there dormant.

How's it going?

Anyway, can you post up your parameters and a pic. (white light)
What kind of flow you have?
Par?

It could. May be not. Just try and see. Some just do their own thing until it wants to really do something.

In the 40 years I've been keeping SPS it's been my experience when a frag doesn't grow after 6 months in stable conditions it needs more light. Yes there are instances where I've had an acro that I trimmed and then it started to branch but that was because it was only plating, not stagnant.

None of your corals have based out. How long have you had them?

Do you know the par level? What is your lighting and flow like?

All have covered frag plugs. Some growing out they started as nothing. Par 250ish -350ish. Flow is 2 nero5 on a 125 gallon tank running reef moonshine. I ain’t worried about what’s going on with those just 2 specific for me to make changes and tick off the rest of them. I was just curious about the question asked.

I’d take my chances if someone said it works lol
It works :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
EDIT : I started an acro tank February 2023 and I thought the frag were never going to grow. I don't know how people grow colonies in a year. My frags didn't even start basing out until after a year.

I saw a video from @Reefer Matt talking about this exactly as a way of promoting sps growth, it does work.

I tried to find it but couldn’t find it, sorry. But he’s a regular here , I’m sure he’ll hook you up once he’s on.

I’ve observed similar…I’ve also had them remain in “plating mode” for months…I’ve never been able to explain it..

was thinking same

My frags didn't even start basing out until after a year.
I have a tank in which hardly any growth has happened for months … oddly they all seemed to jump start about 2 weeks ago… I can’t find anything or any change as a cause

So I ripped chunk off and let’s see how this goes. Either it does nothing or it wakes it up and makes it grow.
