Hello. I have two Vipraspectra 165w black boxes. I’m thinking about taking off the filters to help with spread. I can only mount them about 6.5-8in above water. I’ve heard of people removing the filters to help with the spread but I wonder what I’m sacrificing doing this. Does it impact PAR efficiency? Will it change the intensity? They look like little magnifying lenses. Has anyone else done this. I’m a DIYer and am always looking for ways to modify/improve what I have. Thanks for any input.

Taking them off will drop the par but they are still powerful lights so you just need to turn them up some to make up the difference. I modded mine by removing a lot of white lights and added more blue, violet, uv leds
