UV Watt and GPH required for 30 gallons

I just installed an Aquatop 7 watt (rated for up to 75 gallons) in my 30 gallon tank. I have the GPH set on 72 but it can go up to 126. Will this speed & watt help remove any parasites? Also, what speed & watt will help remove algae?

The slower speed will actually give it more contract time with the light, and sterilize more. So I would stick to the slower end.

Thank you for responding! Do you know what GPH will help with algae, specifically, at this wattage and tank size?

Background: I did a 3 day dark period for dinos then purchased the UV and began running it several hours before I turned on the lights at partial lighting. The dinos were completely gone at that point from all surfaces.

For now, they’ve stayed off the glass and sand this time, but they immediately came back on the live rock within a day and a half of running the lights again. So I know the UV is helping since they didn’t get on the sand or glass again, but it’s not keeping them off the rock.

Just wondering if I should increase the speed slightly? From what I’ve read, my wattage may be too low but I can’t afford to buy another light for a couple weeks, and I was told that this wattage would work for keeping the algae away when I purchased this light initially.

I blew most of the Dino’s off the rock today, and I may try another black out period (albeit shortened to 48 hours) because my Duncan became stressed by the 3.5 days last time, so I’m hoping that by putting them back in the water column, the light may kill them off completely.

Any advice on this? I really don’t want to dose with hydrogen peroxide because I have an invert clean up crew that I don’t want to risk killing if I overdo it.

Unfortunately I don't know the best approach for dinos, because it depends on the type. I believe there was a Dinos facebook page most people have had success with!
