I am fighting ostreopsis and am wondering if people are having success beating it with a UV sterilizer plumbed through the return pump rather than having it run in and out of the display directly.

My biggest reason I don't want it in the display is having to alter my screen top. I have a 25W AquaUV sterilizer that is currently running off of another pump that is sitting in my sump. It hasn't been effective this way but maybe it would work better directly off of the return?

It should work just fine in a closed loop from the sump. I don’t see how that would be an issue.

Is this how you were/are running yours? I saw a thread you had posted but didn't see an update.

Yep! It works just fine.

I haven’t had dinos in a while. Seems like my tank just randomly matured. Now I don’t even use the UV and still don’t have dinos.

Maybe I’ll use the UV once every few months for water clarity.

That's great to hear. I think I'll have to get working on moving the UV to the return.

Have you checked if the quartz sleeves needs to be cleaned? I get a yellow film that blocks the UV penetration that is extremely easy to remove with a vinegar-soaked paper towel.

Yes I recently set it back up and cleaned it well. The UV sterilizer was in storage and not run for terribly long but I'm also going to buy a replacement bulb just in case.
