I've read many threads here on dosing LaCl. This is not a thread to debate the use, period.
Do not post your opinions of dosing LaCl please.

My question is, with this calculator it seems that I should use the Two Little Fishies PhosBan®-L calculator if I diluted the Phosfree 100ml to 200ml of RODI water and follow the calculators formula -

IMPORTANT: First dilute PhosBan®-L by mixing 100ml of PhosBan®-L with 200ml of reverse osmosis or deionized water

To reduce phosphates from 0.43 ppm to 0.1 ppm in 1000 gallons of water:

PhosBan®-L dose: 82.5 ml of diluted solution

50% of recommended dose: 41.2 ml of diluted solution

5 ml of the diluted PhosBan®-L in 20 gallons of water will reduce phosphates by 1.0 ppm

Here is the Phosfree product I'm going to use

I read another thread saying that if I used 100ml of phosfree and added 200 ml of RODI it would be the same concentration as 2 little fishies phosban - L. I did not think that was correct

So I guess an easier question might have been what is my dosing formula for the Phosfree product.
my system is 1000 gallons my pO4 is .47 by hanna checker performed 3 test all within .02 of each other so I feel confident in that number

Randy how many ml per 100 gallons of the "Straight" out of the bottle phosfree would be the correct formula, and then would you dilute and drip or what method would you prescribe for dosing ?

Thanks as always Randy.

I don’t know the potency of Phosfree, sorry.
Does this help Randy ? From the manufactures websites

Here is from another R2R thread

I am trying to figure out an appropriate dilution for Phosfree for my tank. The MSDS indicates it is straight lanthanum chloride, and the dosing instructions indicate the scale of application is at the absolute other end of the continuum relative to what my tank would need. The back of the bottle (pictured below) says that 500mL would drop 300ppb of phosphate in 10,000 gallons of water.

My tank is 150G of actual water volume and has been measuring 0.10ppm or so on Hanna ULR.

So adjustment factor “V” for the volume of water differences:

V: 150G / 10,000G = 0.015

And adjustment factor “C” for for relative concentration differences (and 0.1ppm = 100ppb)

C: 0.10ppm / 300ppb = 0.333

Dosage adjustment that would theoretically take my tank to zero…

V * C * Recommended Dose
= 0.015 * 0.333 * 500 mL

= 2.5 mL

Does this check out right to you guys? Would probably dose half that amount and see what happens if someone can double check me.

Thanks!

I apologize up front as I can't check you per your request. However wanted to pass along what I did when I ran similar calculations comparing phosphate rX to a DIY version using SeaKlear. I performed a water change, saved two 5 gallon buckets of it, ran a manual phosphate test on each, calculated the dose, applied, and tested after. Compare results.

Seemed to work ok for me and both are somewhat close. Not sure if that is something you can do.
