Hello group. You may have read I am having a light fixture issue. Well I am talking with the ballast company and they want to rule out light bulb failure. Well 3 of my six bulbs seem to be nonworking. All are just a few months old. They went out when the light had issues the other day. The ballast company want me to have 6 working bulbs and put them in and see where the ones, if any, are not working. I do not want to buy 3 new bulbs if the ballast could be bad and blow them. If anyone had 2 old bulbs I could buy cheaply or lol even better have. I would be grateful. I don't mind buying new ones but only after the issues is fixed. Correction the fixture is for 36 inch tank the bulbs are 34 inch 39 watt.

That seems like a pain, can a multimeter not solve the mystery?

lol I am just jumping through hoops to get them to warranty the ballast. As it is Current lighting that made the Nova extreme pro said they do not cover the ballast in the warranty the company that they get the ballast from does. I told them the light is just ballast and sockets. If they do not cover ballast what does their warrant cover?I do know I will not purchase more light from them.

The lighting-end of a fluorescent ballast involves some very high voltage - not sure it would be safe or if common meters would handle it. (Anyone?)

And I'm not sure I follow their thinking anyway. Why isn't one good bulb enough to try in each position? If it works in one, should work in all. If it doesn't, it's not the bulb's fault.
Likewise to prove your bulbs are good or bad. If a slot will light up one bulb, there's no reason it shouldn't light all your good bulbs.

Additional points to consider:
A DIY GU10 LED rebuild of that fixture is simple and should only cost about $100. You get lots more benefits besides a working light if you do this too.
A replacement 4-bulb ballast should be less than $100 - way less if you need it for only one or two bulbs.

Hope this helps!

Well it has been determined a ballast is bad. The ballast company placed me a new ballast in the mail today. Now 4 of the six bulbs are working.
