Why no plastic seals or gaskets to keep moisture out in a product that is gonna be used around salt water

Not trying to derail this thread but most ppl who are forced to put electronics in the stand put some sort of air ventilation system in as well. If they don't they are playing roulette. Case in point this thread.

The back of my stand is open and therefore has plenty of ventilation.

My point exactly. Everyone assumes that these companies take this into consideration when making products specifically for aquariums and therefore being exposed to water. My case is proof that they don't and I hope this helps everyone learn what may happen if you're in the same situation.

Hmmmm. I just bought one of these for my 120 build. I've been using a Lifereef floatswitch on my 75 for years w/out incident. I'll have to take placement into consideration. I can understand their position, but I also wonder if they market it to saltwater enthusiasts (and they do) if they haven't warranted it for fitness for a particular purpose, which could put them on the hook. I will say that I've had VERY positive experiences with Roger regarding Tunze stuff in the past, and am a long time Tunze fan.

Cubano any idea which ato u gonna order

I had a buddy of mine sell me an almost new AutoAqua Smart ATO for $50 when they run for $150 new. I like that it's just one piece and no controller so it will eliminate the issue I had with the Tunze.

This is exactly my point. I see people with controllers, and all sorts of electronics inside their stand and have no problems. I had my Tunze wave controller inside the stand for over two years without a problem.
I totally agree I had the same issue and this is my reply to the supplier of my Tunze:
VERY disappointed. A so called quality product costing £155.78 needing a 118.99 repair less than four months into a two year guarantee.
Easy to say it is water damage but this was not sited in the sump or close to the aquarium. It was sited as far as the supplied cables would allow and has NOT had water spilt on it. Other electrical controllers such as doser, and lighting timers, heating controllers, were on the same board (many of them for much longer) and have no water damage. If it is humidity then the Tunze product is extremely poor quality if it fails in such a short time.
I will not pay £118 to repair a product that doesn’t last four months.
Very angry Jim Adams
