Tunze MAR 3181 - Cheato strands coming out of the top into the SUMP

Hi All -

I have the Tunze MAR 3181 unit and I've noticed little strands of cheato are coming out of the MAR and into the sump. I can sit there and watch the little strands turn inside the reactor then make their way out the output tube into the sump.

I do have the pump flow adjusted low enough that the ball of cheato is staying at the bottom, but every now and then strands of cheato break loose and come out.

For now, I am using a media bag rubber banded to the output tube to try and catch the cheato but is there a better way to get it so loose strands of cheato don't come out?

You could put a piece of sponge filter in the top of the reactor. It will be more maintenance though as the filter will clog. I would rather just pick the pieces out of the tank, it’s not going to hurt anything.
