Mine has grown a ton in the past year, but it lost all it's color and is just kind of a washed out magenta-ish/blueish color. It was getting blasted with light, so I thought maybe a bit too much light and I moved it lower down in the tank. It seems to be coloring up a tad with some green highlights, but not too much. I am considering moving it higher up again. Any suggestions? This piece ought to be looking much better in my opinion! Sorry pics are under blues... I'll try and add a daytime pic soon!

Disappointing, maybe try wearing orange glasses when your looking at the tank :) Only joking but I would guess the piece needs nsw numbers and some white light to get anything other than the magenta color. I wouldn’t bother moving it anymore if it didn’t change much the first time.

I keep alk at about 8, pH 8.0 - 8.2, temp 77, Nitrate around 3-4, phosphate about .002 - .004, calcium about 420. I also add reef energy A and B and acropower every day, and feed frozen food generously twice a day. Lighting is a TON of T5/LEDs... There is definitely plenty of white light during the daytime hours, only blues is just in the morning and evening. Honestly I feel like a lot of my "higher end" pieces are a bit off. Like they are wanting to break through but they just aren't... Not too far off, mind you, but still off... Any advice would be appreciated!

How much PAR is this colony getting? We like giving them a lot of flow and light. Our nicest colonies are getting 600 PAR but those are just to show off a little. 400 you should be getting some solid color. Also when we say a lot of flow we mean TONS, which I'm sure you have but maybe not in that area.

In short, I would move it up I think it'll be worth it :)

This piece colors up completely different depending on where in the tank it is

Ahhhh yes thank you for the feedback! It was getting about 400 PAR and yes, lots of flow. Now it's much closer to 275 - 300 but I'll need to put a par meter on it again. I do think I'll move it back to being way up in the tank. I'll report back after a few weeks!

LOL yeah it's packed in there... not so bad when you tank a step back! Thanks!View attachment 1392065

Beautiful tank, always appreciate some "real" pictures where there is some ugliness that we all experience like cyano. It's like seeing an Instagram model in person, lol.

here’s the colony moved back to its home at the top of the reef. I’ll take some PAR readings soon and report what happens :)
