It's still happening. I found a few extra steps that make it able to add to an existing order.

I just noticed I can add items to existing order, that are not in coral sale, and they will add without adding shipping. But all of the corals I try to add from the hourly drop sale, those all automatically add shipping charge no matter what I try.

Yesterday I know I encountered getting to checkout with a freebie, but it then not letting me add to existing order - if that happens should I just go ahead anyways and contact you all to refund that shipping?
