Trigger Troubles

I have a a new bluethroat trigger - this is day 3 in the QT tank. It stays in the pvc sideways. I moved the pvc, and it swam to the corner, and it was hovering in the corner when I left this morning.

It is in the tank with a blue spotted jawfish and a diamond goby, they both appear to be fine.

The QT tank has been running since February. The salinity is at 1.022; I'm bringing it up slowly from the 1.019 it was shipped at. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate.

I have a slew of meds at home and several lfs in the Phoenix area. Thank you.

Not abnormal position for fish to be in as it often locks itself within rocks. If eating and breathing normal, keep an eye on it

Is it eating? If so, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I’m concerned for the jawfish - they don’t handle bare quarantine tanks well, they need cooler water, and they are prone to bacterial skin issues when first acquired.

It’s not eating. It’s barely moving and breathing heavy and on its side. I think it’s gonna die. I just dosed the tank with fin and body cure. We will see what the next 12 hours holds

Thanks for your concern about the jawfish - I have a container of sand for him, and like I said, he’s doing fine. The issue is with the trigger.

Fin and Body cure is sodium chloride and doxycycline. Sodium chloride of course is of no benefit in a marine tank. Then, doxycycline is inactivated by carbonates, so also doesn’t work in marine tanks.

She swam a little and ate for the first time. I was going to try general Cure today. Any suggestions on what I SHOULD do?

If it ate for the first time this morning, that seems to be an improvement. Assuming it didn't come in with some internal issue, then you could begin a proactive quarantine process:
