does one need to upgrade to the newer a3 apex controller in order to control the trident np i have the 2016 version but have read online that alot with the 2016 version has been kicked offline and cant get it back up and running they was told by neptune that they had to upgrade to the a3 version has anyone had this problem

You shouldn't need to, you just need the newest firmware.

That being said, if your unit bricks, then you have to buy a new one. So back everything up before hand.

Personally, this is why I'm starting to look into Hydros. After seeing a lot posts about of units bricking from an update, or even POLO Reef where the old units started dumping kalkwasser, I'm not confident in Neptune at the moment.

So, tread with caution.

Basically Neptunes policy is if they push software and it breaks your entire setup, they give a discount on a new one.

Not meant to be a review post or starting anything, just filling in the gaps.

All of that said, there have been far less reports of that recently. So they may have worked through all of it.

Contacted them they suggested upgrading to the a3 that’s a problem 4 me being mines has all 4 probes I just need the brain which they don’t sell makes no sense pay almost 1k looking at hydros as well more bang for your buck
