I have looked through multiple threads about tentacle length and I'm struggling to find a definite answer.

I picked up my torch a couple of weeks ago, in the store, the tentacles were very long - some looked up to 6" long.

However, in my tank, they are shorter and "fatter".

What could be causing this? I loved the way it looked in the store.

My parameters are:

Temp - 24C
Salinity 1.024
KH - 8.4
Calcium - 500
PH 8.0
Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 5

The coral is overall healthy looking, I don't see any signs of receding either. I have it placed around the middle of my tank using the standard Fluval lights.

Could it be the flow? I have attached a video to see what you think.

Or could the light be a bit strong? I have used epoxy to glue it in place, but I'd be happy to move it if you think it could be due to light.

Any help would be appreciated!

I doubt its the light or flow, the flow doesn't look very strong, and thats not a strong light.

The tank is looking very new and sterile, most corals don't like this type of environment.

I don't see the alkalinity listed but this is the most important parameter for lps and sps corals.

As you say it looks overall healthy, I would just leave it alone to acclimate.

Alkalinity is at 8.4

Whilst I know the tank is fairly new, I do have experience in these corals, I have been testing daily for the past couple of weeks with Red Sea test kits and I have not noticed any swings (except for nitrate) but I do make sure I perform weekly water changes to keep Nitrates at bay.

Whilst you say the Fluval light isn't very strong, I have found a post online that has the PAR reading:

I wasn't sure whether 200 PAR might be a bit much for it.

Although it is looking healthy, one head that is directly under the light seems to stay slightly retracted compared to the rest.

In my LFS, these tentacles were very long and skinny, these are just a bit more plump!
