I got a torch and it’s on a disk. I don’t want to glue it to the rock on the disk. Can I cut the branch close to the disk and glue the torch to the rock where I want it or should I break the disk till just the base of the torch is left.

The white part right? The long part before the arms? I was going to try to get it as close to the disk as possible.
The fleshy part is where the tentacles come out of. You should be able to tell the difference it’s like a peach ish color then the skeleton is really dark or should be darker than the flesh overall. Hope this helps

I agree with this just make sure you “pluck” it where the skeleton is not where the flesh is

Does this look okay the skeleton used to be white.

Is it sick or poor water quality? What should I do?
From a few pics, There's honestly no way to tell what caused it as you just got it.

You will notice there is no difference between the algae on the skeleton at the base and the algae at the top. This is telling you that flesh has been receded for a little bit of time, So it isn't a quick progression thing, currently.

Tissue recession like that can be because of improper parameters, infections, light or flow stress... There's a long list.

Knowing that you're likely not going to be able to point out the cause, What you can do to help it, Is firstly stop moving it and stop holding it out of the water with the tentacles pressing down on the sharp skeletal ridges. Torches are delicate. That alone can injure it.

Also, keeping pristine water conditions, the lower side of appropriate flow and the lower side of appropriate light will also help.

If it is bacterial and doesn't clean it itself up, the entire polyp may bail out. It made turn into brown jelly.
