I remember using agar petri dishes for high school science just to see how much bacteria was growing in different areas of our school. Taking cotton swabs and testing the drinking fountain, door handles, bathrooms... I think the conclusion we all came to was "everything is gross, wash your hands more".

I love a good history lesson! I never knew just how important Gracillaria was in world history. Whenever I have grown it, I save some for my salads because it both tastes good and carries a lot of healthy minerals (according to the internet, so many grains of salt should be taken). There are a shocking number of products made purely with algae.

Interesting that it's used during the beer brewing process. Agar has an amazing color too. I may have to setup a separate refugium for my system to run some Agar and mix in some mangrove seeds.
