It's really a neat system they have setup here to add additional nutrients but I think it would be hard to apply this method to most peoples tanks.

I don't know if I would even consider that a "refugeum" in the traditional sense. Water movement is fast, having fish in there is not standard, it's not really a refuge for pods...
