Sand sifting starfish are not great unless you have a large system. My old 65 gallon was never able to sustain a food source for the starfish for longer than 6 months before they would expire. My new 225 has had a sand sifter for 2 years now.
This is a great explanation of the real expanse of reef cleaning. Too often, people only contemplate the snails and hermits when it goes much further. My belief has always been to establish an extensive bio reef prior to adding corals and fish. Many people approach it from adding cleaners over time but negate the up front build up required. (Bonus)
I always treated feather dusters as just ornamental, never really thought of them as filter feeders and part of the clean up crew

One thing he didn't touch on is I have had really good luck with products like Marinepure Biomedia plates. I'm guessing that would fall into the category of bio filter?
